Hair, Roots disaster!

I've been dying my brown hair blonde for years and have terrible roots and about a fiver to my name....help!!! It's embarrassing. Plus I've been sick for a 2 months so I don't think I could sit in a salon for ages. Any ideas on home colour, I mixed colour before and put highlights in an exes dark brown hair (when I was 17 and had bad taste ;)) with no hiccups...just don't remember the volume of the peroxide and developer or what toner to get.

I'd probably make it ten times worse though....what do you think?

im always a lil bit - bothered- by how people think with out seeing your head, others can still tell you what to do.

    So... i'll break it down;
Things that ultimately need consideration in order to get the desired result.

    1) what is your base colour?
    2) what is its natural tone?
    3) desired colour?
    4) desired tone?
    5) Level of lift in order to achieve desired result?
    6) what tone to use to neutralise opposing tone in your hair already?
    7) what peroxide is needed in order to lift (cleanly) to desired level?
    8) is it possible to do this without bleach? consider highlights? etc...

i could go on... but of course, hairdressing is easy isn't it?
Best advice, go to a salon , or a training school - or if your not up to it, as a hairdresser to call out to your house, surely you know of someone who does house calls? You cant expect people to give the best advice over an internet forum. . . . . .

I knew it you'd say that...I needed a virtual kick up the arse to stop me from going into boots and grabbing something and coming out with a brassy stripe on the top of my head!!! Lol... I might ask a mates sister to call but not sure how qualified she is....

A male friend used to do my hair in classes and it was absolutely gorgeous, he made a house call when the classes were finished the result was a brown/orange tequila sunrise looking thing...

House calls are scary! I'll invest in a rather large hat and I'll be back to work next week so I'll get in done when I'm up to it.

No need for the lecture though tis a lecture in itself realising your hair has gone to the dogs after been sick all summer...:(

I know the feelin Nic'name! I have dyed blonde hair too and it's frustrating sometimes when the roots are showing and you haven't got time and/or money to get them done.

I'd still advise you to hold off until you have the money to get it done properly in the hairdressers though! As annoying as that can be :(

The home dyes tend to ruin your hair - I used them for a couple of years myself - they're handy, quick, cheap but you never get a proper job (with blonde dyes anyways).

Maybe you could even get a half head/t-bar in the hairdressers to tie you over until you've a bit more cash?

OR, as "all the stars" suggested, maybe you know a hairdresser who'd do a nixer on the cheap for you?:)
