ON my previous 400D and 450D I could get a lovely Sepia but on the 40D it is nowhere near what I want.
I have Toning effect set to Sepia and Filter effect set to Orange (or Yellow) and it just doesn't work.
Sepia is an effect I prob love the most and would hate not to have it!

Also I find the Colours "warmer" on Standard setting compared to the 450D.

Best done in PS or whatever you use and not in camera in my experience.

    I don't use PS/Gimp/Lightroom/Raw and it was perfect from my 450D. :(

+1. Take the photo in Colour in RAW and do any conversions in PS or lightroom. Gives you the option of still using the colour version

You must use something to process your shots ?

It's easy to do in most processing software, even Picassa, which is pretty basic does a decent job.

    Most camers/models are different.

Why not experiment until you get what you want and then save as a custom setting.

Referring to the colours, yes I will mess around til I get what I want.
Referring to PP I use the Canon proggie that comes with Canons, maybe it's time to d/l something. ;)

You might as well get used to this they only stick stuff like that on the entry level cams to make it more appealing to new dslr buyers,
When you start to upgrade they focus more on technical specifications which is really what people want/need

Might give a go to Lightroom, it would prob be easier to use, I don't want anything too complicated.
    I liked this soundbite
"Lightroom's job is to help digital photographers with high-volume image workflows get their work done more efficiently. It does that primarily by presenting a streamlined interface targeted to common tasks"
Or maybe I'll just explore the apps that came with Canon some more.

You've been using camera settings for this?

    Please, PLEASE get lightroom.

Could you be a bit more helpful to the OP instead of slating him.

D/l Lightroom and I'm fairly sure if I could get used to it it would be quite good, I did have trouble finding the sharpen feature? :o
I quite liked the before and after feature.

    /edit Found it!

it might be worth getting the trial of photoshop elements too - it's fairly straightforward to use. you can do a fair bit with it or just crop/resize if you're not into major post processing.

Yep, gotta say there is way too much in this PP using Lightroom, I'm tbh into the fairly basic PP, especially as most of my photography is Gigs which in all honesty only need basic PP.
