About 10 minutes to go. Bolt goes for the first 100m-200m double since Lewis in Los Angeles 1984

    2 Kim Collins
    3 Christian Malcolm
    4 Shawn Crawford
    5 Usain Bolt
    6 Brian Dzingai
    7 Churandy Martina
    8 Walter Dix
    9 Wallace Spearmon

Donovan Bailey just said on Canadian TV that he expects him to win in a time of 19.50.

    Bolt, Dix, Crawford.

I dont know if he'll run 19:50 . Depends on his mood might have it won with 50 m to go .

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,614 ✭✭✭Rineanna

Prediction: Bolt in 19.45. I've a feeling that may be a tad conservative, so let's see how wrong I am.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,155 ✭✭✭juvenal

I reckon this is more tense then the 100m, despite Bolt's antics in the intros!

    I'll go Bolt, Crawford, Dix

FOOK!! New WR and a headwind!!

    1. Usain Bolt 19.30
    2. Churandy Martina
    3. Close call - maybe Spearmon?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,155 ✭✭✭juvenal

He was flat-out through the finish, which shows how exceptional MJ's record was!

First 100m/200m double since 1984 - and the first ever to break both records in winning gold?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 627 ✭✭✭fatgav

look at the head on replay. ALL the time, he'l looking at the clock. he wanted that. i was shouting 'keep it going' all throughout... i'm so glad he did

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,155 ✭✭✭juvenal

Great to see the camradarie between the athletes, and not the Maurice Greene "GOAT" bullsheet.

Wallace Spearmon was disqualified?? Sounds like a lane violation.

    Crawford has won bronze?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,376 ✭✭✭Squirrel

    Spearmon DQ apparently

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,614 ✭✭✭Rineanna

Woops, a bit tough for Spearman...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,155 ✭✭✭juvenal

Spearmon was just told he was disqualified and the mood-swing was massive. . .

The crowd just sand Happy Birthday to Bolt :D 22 today

Is anyone watching BBC?? What's Johnson's reaction?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,202 ✭✭✭✭Pherekydes

    Spearmon DQ, loses the bronze.

Martina made a huge breakthrough for silver. Yet another medsl for the Caribbean!

They're singing Happy Birthday for Bolt: he's 22 today!

The G.O.A.T. better book in to get the tattoo removed.

Johnson just saying it was incredible, the start was amazing, he made 2 or 3 metres on the transition alone. The general gist of what Johnson is just after saying

Very gracious. Going on about a fantastic start, unnatural for a big man etc.

Is sub 19 possible in a few years?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,155 ✭✭✭juvenal

Donovan Bailey is eating a little humble pie here on CBC!

He's a decent analyst, he just feels the need to drop in every few minutes that he was Olympic champion and WR holder in 1996 - dude we know!

First athlete to win the 100m/200m and break the WR in doing so. Take it in people, this is one for the grandchildren. . .

he's being very complimentary about it, i suppose he has to be. deep down i suspect he's a little annoyed.

he keeps talking about the long stride being the key. i suppose you just have to accept he's a freak of nature

just showed his 'during-race' reaction, he just smiled. jackson looked like he was gonna hyper-ventilate

sue barker just told him he'll be waking up tomoro a former-world record holder. way to rub it in

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 447 ✭✭superjosh9

well, have to admit, poor old Spearmon, that's killed it for me. He ran amazingly the last 100m - then to see him celebrating and taken away. That is so hard to take.

He was running on the outside - he had no one on his right to judge how far away he was from the lines - he stepped on the line and got dq?! There was no advantage! I hope they protest it and I hope they win. But they won't.

He didn't look quite as happy as when watching the 100m, but wasn't too pissed off with it.

They rounded it down though, sorry Michael.

I imagine they'll show footage of Johnson and Jackson watching the race before the Beeb finish their athletics coverage, so get tuned to BBC.

Anyone see the article in the Sunday Times sunday just gone? Bolt's stride is 8 feet long. Powell (who they compared him with) has a stride of 6ft 10. Bolt is only 2 inches taller than Powell, it's just a mega stride.

There's no relevance to having someone on your right. The line you must keep outside is on your left.

It's akin to cutting the corner. It's tough, but thems the rules.

4 x 100. He will probably run the 2nd leg as they can stretch it to 110+m with the acceleration zones.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,202 ✭✭✭✭Pherekydes

Look out for the Jamaicans in the 4 x 100m. They have Bolt, Asafa Powell, Michael Frater and Nesta Carter. The WR could be under pressure. I do hope they've practised their baton passing. The USA have 4 very good guys and will be well drilled, so it's game on.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,155 ✭✭✭juvenal

It looks like NBC didn't show the track finals this morning AGAIN! Obviously waiting for primetime. If Bolt was a Yank they'd be holding the phones

They're showing live coverage of USA-Serbia in men's volleyball.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 385 ✭✭MonkeyWrench

I presume the only race he has left is the 4 x 100 metre relay for Jamaica?

Yeah, it *should* be a great race, but nothing would surprise me at this point! A close race would be great.

Does Usain not run in the 400m , excuse my ignorance, I am just swept in the euphoria of this guy.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,473 ✭✭✭Roddy23

just after watching it myself - incredible:

of course there's relevance - he had no one running beside him on his right and therefore spatial relations were compromised. All I am saying is that it is much easier for this to happen in the outside lanes than in any other.

    Still think he deserves bronze.

Must say, I'm a tad disappointed. Johnson was a bit of a hero to me...
