This man deserves an award, he revolutionised air travel and more importantly he carried the flame of thatcherism forward and is not one bit afraid of the bearded Unions. Fair play to him, mad funny too and is a loose cannon.

Yeah he revolutionised air travel alright. Whereas before it was an enjoyable experience, now it's a free-for-all diabolical mess.

Ryanair are the worst airline I've ever used. It is true, you get what you pay for. With Ryanair, that's to be treated like a piece of sh1t and to be fleeced for all you're worth once onboard.

And while I'm typing this, I can see a news report of an emergency landing Ryanair-style......in other words, a mess.

Ditto above, it's the worst airline ever.

But it is cheap, and I can put up with offened sensibilities in exchange for return trip to London for less than a taxi from my house to the airport.

Plus, even if you never fly with them, what they have done is force other airlines to lower their prices, which is worth far more than we can easily guess.

Still, I always go Aer Lingus :)

One thing that annoys me about O'Leary is that although my politics and economics are largely not in line with his, he keeps making very good points....

saw him in dublin airport a while back. 5 minutes later saw a book called RuinAir: how to be treated like sh!te in 15 different countries, and still quite like it!!

Only €0.01 ( excluding taxes and charges of €12.98 )

Literally died not buying it and giving it to him.

And there was me thinking that Freddie Laker revolutionised air travel...

I would get the popcorn out and sit in a very comfy chair if they appointed him to to conduct a Value for Money Audit of the Civil service. Not that I want to see people lose their jobs, just that I am so sick of the inefficiencies in the Irish Civil service.

As a business leader I hold the man in the highest esteem - and accordingly - legend IMHO.

Spot on Bolt - Freddie Laker devised the original operating model, however, my 2c, O'Leary has refined it, redvising the model and applying it to continental Europe (cross border strategies) and by extension, infinitely more difficult to roll out. You think?

So, you think as part of ryanair's cost-cutting policy, they lost the ability to control wild birds?

I never use ryanair but you have to give the guy credit. He doesnt promise anybody any sort of luxury, yet people expect it. He never promises to fly you into the centre of the city you want to go to, yet people complain.

I feel priviliged enough to be able to shell out a few quid when I fly and use Aer Lingus etc. because its for holidays and I want to enjoy myself and relax. But if I had to do a weekly commute or regular business trip, i'd be using ryanair.

i think he was referring to an incident that happened on the 26th of august- a loss of cabin pressure.

But didn't Freddie provide the cheap service to City centre airports rather than some of the 'airports' that Ryanair fly to....
You'll have to forgive me, I'm English

Come on now people, you pay more on the bus from cork to dublin than to travel to continental europe. And the bus drivers are hardly super nice to you because you pay money.

People complain that they dont get exactly where they want to go. Ever think of spending that extra 200 you saved on a bus or taxi? Or a night in a hotel so that you're where you want to be and all fresh?

I can honestly say i wouldnt be home for christmas if i had to pay more than 50 for return flights. It would be 280 with aerlingus.

Low cost was pioneered by some yank, but refined with ruthlessness by O'Leary.

Ryanairs safety record is near perfect. Think of the ammount of flights they make. Now think of how many accidents they've had. Its miniscule, its always touted by the media who blame a couple of birds on it being a low cost carrier. The aviation sector is very closely regulated, and if you're a cowboy you'll be grounded in no time.

And as always, if you dont like it, dont fly with them!

He did revolutionize air travel based on herb kellehers low cost paradigm - hats off to the guy; he clearly did his homework. However, I think that he has gone to far and has crossed the line. I have lost all respect for the man after I watched him on the evening news a while back and grimaced when I listened to him discussing the imminent changes relating to check in baggage, airport check in etc... He stated that passengers should only bring one piece of hand luggage on board the aircraft and that in the future people will not need to check in luggage. How this is going to work completely eludes me. Nevertheless, it's just another money making racket to extort more money out of the consumer; why break a lucrative habit?

They already have the monopoly as it stands. O'Leary holds enough shares to sit on Aer Lingus board meetings and as a corollary it comes as no suprise to see that Aer Lingus has "based" it's business model on that of Ryanair - whether it be by choice or not.

    He's gone too far...
    My two cents
