Bought the Humax HD box in Newry yesterday. Very easy to set up. My question is can RTE TG4 etc be watched on it. I picked them up on the manual tune but it wont let me view. I have FTA satellite box in a holiday home in Donegal and it works fine.

Simple answer is no - they are encrypted and won't be viewable unless RTE somehow gets over rights issues of shows etc and sky play nice.

Do tell us about the box in Donegal - yea get RTE on it?

Yeah no problem - RTE1, 2 and TG4, no TV3 but Ive got all the ITV channels so not really a problem.I think it is a Grundig, Got it from Satellite.ie

bummer about the freesat. I was going to cancel the sky sub if that worked.

    Un-possible

Thanks for the mention but I think you are mistaken as I do not sell Grundig boxes. RTE is not available on free to air satellite boxes at present.

not. He said Grundig. Grunding doesn't have combi. Only DVB-T or DVB-S
Thats why i'm thinking DTT - Grundig DVB-T, specially because he doesn't get TV3

If it was DTT he would get all or none of the 4 channels since they are all on the same frequency.

He should reply himself to clear up the confusion.

Its a bollox having to pay for RTE twice (once through license, once by paying the bastards at bSkyB) and then still having to watch the ads. you can cancel the sub, but you gotta pick up the irish channels with an ordinary antenna :(

is there any DVB-T coverage in cork? without using a mile high antenna

This discussion goes on a lot, you don't have to pay twice for RTE as the analogue signal is free to pick up whenever you want and they are nearly at the digital rollout stage

We all pay twice for RTE : If you have SKY

    1) TV license
    2) Sky

If we lived in France there would be all out strike, bring the country to a halt,

Let's face it, the analogue signal is ancient, and not reliable in Ireland. I live in Oranmore (10km from Galway), there is no way I could pick up a crystal clear signal for RTE (let alone TV3)...
The analogue signal is a shame, LOADS of people (including me) subscribed to Sky/NTL to get a proper signal on RTE. Ireland is an easy target, hence Boxer:pac: taking over DTT muxes...

yup. there is always 1 or 2 channels kinda snowy :(

why can't the stingey bastards at RTE broadcast the stuff unencrypted on some satellite themselves? The GOD channel, and all those advertising channels that nobody watches can afford to broadcast via satellite so why can't these muppets? spending too much on worthless 'admin' staff maybe?
