I needed to get from Dublin to Galway yesterday morning. I initially planned on taking the Citylink bus (€15 each way) but imagine the pleasant surprise I had when I checked www.irishrail.ie and booked a train ticket for €12:
irishrail.ie is delighted to announce even lower single fares on its website.

Dublin Heuston - Cork €16 each way*

Dublin Heuston - Tralee €16 each way*

Dublin Heuston - Ennis €13 each way*

Dublin Heuston - Limerick €13 each way*

Dublin Heuston - Galway €12 each way*

Dublin Heuston - Westport €12 each way*

Dublin Heuston - Kilkenny €8 each way*

Dublin Heuston - Waterford €8 each way*

    Only on Irishrail.ie

*These fares are available Monday to Thursday on the following trains only on irishrail.ie (these fares are not available from booking office or telesales):

    Dublin to Cork 09.00/ 10.00/ 11.00/ 12.00/ 13.00/ 19.00/ 20.00/ 21.00

    Cork to Dublin 10.30/ 11.30/ 12.30/ 13.30/ 14.30/ 15.30/ 18.30/ 19.30/ 20.30

    Dublin to Waterford 07.30/ 09.30/ 10.00/ 11.30

    Waterford to Dublin 10.45/ 13.15/ 15.00/ 18.25

    Limerick to Dublin 05.35/ 06.35/ 11.55/ 12.35/ 14.15/ 15.55/ 19.50

    Dublin to Limerick 09.25/ 10.00/ 11.25/ 12.00/ 20.00/ 21.00

    Dublin to Tralee 09.00/ 11.00/ 13.00/ 20.00

    Tralee to Dublin 09.15/ 11.15/ 13.15/ 17.15/ 19.15

    Dublin to Galway 07.10/ 09.10/ 11.10/ 19.15

    Galway to Dublin 10.50/ 13.10/ 15.05

    Dublin to Westport 08.20/ 12.40

    Westport to Dublin 13.10/ 18.05

These prices don't seem to be widely advertised so I thought I'd post them here, apologies if this is old news ;)

Correct me if I'm wrong but if you're going return there isn't much difference is there?

Nice and cheap single fares though :)

Awesome! I didn't realise this was available on so many intercity times.

    Thanks OP,

I have to say that site is one of the most poorly organised sites I have seen for a long time, no facility to purchase family tickets and the layout hurts the eyes, try reading the FAQ area?
    /rant

Sent them a stinker of a mail, see what response it garners, most likely a PFO.

I tried to avail of same offer last month. When I tried on 2 different computers and both failed to complete my transaction, I rang customer care and got the usual runaround answer. Tried a third time and still the same thing happened. I was pretty annoyed and dont think the add is reliable.

It never dawned on me to buy my tickets anywhere other then the website but recently while in Limerick Station I was looking at the prices on the Ticket machines in the station and couldn't get over how expensive they were compared to online.

The site is atrocious in general, but does tie in with the usual IE practice of giving customers as little info as possible.

If you're travelling intercity return on a weekend, look into a weekender ticket. You have to get a weekender card (need passport photo) which costs 8 or 12 euro (can't remember which) but gets you a return ticket discounted to almost student rate, valid for travel Fri-Sun, return up to and including Tuesday. Can sometime pay for itself in just one trip, almost always over 2 or 3. Details hidden somewhere on the website, search for Weekender.
