kids college fund - 15 year time horizon

I am considering investing a lump of cash as a 'college fund' for my kids - one is nearly two and the other is on the way . (even if they turn out to be thick and don't go to college, I like the idea of having a lump of cash for them when they become adult - first cars\house deposits etc etc).

I am considering putting €10k aside for this now and would be happy to lock this away for 15 years. I may well put extra cash into this fund in the years to come also - certainly the way the politicans are talking, it looks like it'll be needed.

Has anyone similar experience of setting up such a college fund and what suggestions do you have as to a suitable investment vehicle?

    thanks in advance,

    el S

Read my post #18 and buy the book mentioned. I have a few Euro in Etrade waiting patiently for a price on BRKB shares. US markets were down 3% today.:)

Is it not true that you have to buy Berkshire stocks in blocks of 10 ?

Also, Buffett is either stepping down very soon or has already stepped down from active management of the company and Munger is taking over ?

    Thanks

Afaik the BRKB shares are about $3,900 now (the B shares BRKB are one thirthieth of the A shares BRKA).

I assume I can buy less than thirty B shares, or else why have them?
With luck I will have €50k and hope to buy the BRKB at about $3000 each.

I know Buffett is 78, and has either picked his successor, or has a panel of three. I doubt Charlie Munger is the choice as he is 84, and has never been involved (or very little) in the operations.

People have been scared of Buffett's age for a long time now.
Shareholder to Buffett: "I can't affoard a life event" (i.e Buffett's death). Buffett: "Neither can I"
