    During my tour of germany i was based in a place called CELLE,
    i was billided in block 14, heidiekassern, celle. aformer ss tank regiment in the war. it was the biggist red brick building in west germany,apparantly during the war it was used to transport intern,s to BELSEN via an underground tunnel, the tunnel was alledged to be only 10 kms long, CELLE being the main railhead in the war, so it was easy to transport troop,s and equipment and intern,s to and from various part,s of germany/poland,
    so to my tale, iwas a young gunner on guard detail,part of my job was to lower the regtimental flag at the end of the day. being the newbie i was dispaced to lower the flag on my own, so of igo,s up 14 flight,s of stair,s to the very top off blk 14 in the dark {we were only a skelton crew} with only atorch and cheery whistle,i get,s up there and low and behold ther,s these old ingraving,s from former ss personel(klaus 1935/1942} ect,ect.
    i reached out to lower the flag and i here,s a door opening down the corridor,{ the biggist atic in world. and the spookyiist lmao}
    and heard foot step,s . what was strange was they had steel tip,s like drill boot,s but these boot,s where only issued to guard,s regtiment,s.
    not artillary regtiment,s like our,s.
    so i start to make my way down with this flag and i hear these {jackboot,} type footstep,s following behind me when i stop it stopped needless to say i started to take two step,s at a time on the way down, stoping to hear if i was being followed {chased lol} by this strange happening. u might think this was my comrade,s pulling my leg, but they wound,nt have been able to control there snigger,s {we were only 16/19 yr old,s} and the atmosphere was dank wet and very dark you wound,nt get them up their for all the beer and frauiling,s in west germany. so i get,s down to the guard commander, an old salt from cornwall{hello me dear pat} and give,s a report in shrill/paniced voice,
    the guard commander who was an exx ww2 veteran told me that blk 14 was as deep as it was tall, 7sub basment,s and a rumoured underground tank/equipment workshop. when CELLE was liberated in the war the basment of blk 14 was ordered to be flooded and sealed, by the axis high command, and it was rumoured that alot of intern,s were drowned in the tunnel system as well as ss injured solder,s {under ground hospital ?}.
    apparntly to cover there track,s

    a stange tale but i promise you 100% true and i thought i shoud share it with youse guy,s

    there was a rumour, i found out later that a young captain from the ss was so diguisted about what happened he hung himself near the end of the war.. also i found out that about 300 intern,s escaped from the main railhead and fled into the town all were rounded up and executed in my old camp .. the local citizen,s at that time {1980,s}
    were not keen to talk about what happened..also it,s said that all cobbled road,s in germany were classed as war grave,s as the prisoner,s who laid the cobble,s were buried were they collapsed

    OP, I've been in a couple of army barracks that were used by the Wehrmacht and SS during the war. Some of them are damn creepy and they all have scarey/strange tales associated. The flooded cellars containing who-knows-what horrors is one I've heard a few times. Also, the stories about an armies worth of Tiger tanks buried, awaiting the rise of the Fatherland.
    All good stuff but I take them as just good yarns. I have heard some people's personal experiences though, and they made my hair curl. Yours did. (Hey, that must be a while back if the guard commander was a WW2 vet?) Funny enough, when I was in Celle some mates and I investigated the attic of one of the barracks blocks armed with nothing more than a Bic lighter. I'm not usually that easily frightened, especially in company (put on a brave face and all that) but I didn't like it up there one bit. IIRC, there was a hanging(s) associated with that attic. Wonder if it's your SS Captain? Or it might have been used for executions. I can't remember the story now.
    My brother was based very near the site of Belsen concentration camp. He had some strange experiences. Horrible place.

    yep. my barrack,s was taunton bk,s in celle. there is another bk,s next to belsen called houne and there is a canteen {garrison type) called the round house, on the ceiling there,s still the nazi swastica and other sighn,s. and if you like exploring see if you can find any of the cold war bunker,s buried deep near the old iron curtain near kessal germany, they where big enough to house an armoured regt, to stay behind an attact soviot rear supply,s

    ok you have to remember that the baor only leased these barrack,s from the german govt, some camp,s where stricly of limit,s and guarded by german raised milita who where (being german) very robust in there duty,s, some of these where bunker,s rumoured to contain arm,s ammo and equipment for call up in case of war. but if you seen these place,s they where delapadated beyond use. so it might lead you to think what else is down there .

    if you goggle celle, it will bring up there tourist web page. on the site there is a picture of a big red brick building(blk14)it is now the local council office and cafe. if you notice there is a lake/pond on the old regtimental sqaure, hence still keeping it,s celler,s flooded ???

    The spelling is alright, I just don't get why you keep putting a comma before the s at the end of a word. Like, the plural of room is rooms, not room,s...

    Anyway, I'm a bit amazed by the stories of the casual slaughter, like the flooding and the executions. I assume this was when the allies were pushing towards Berlin at the end of the war? I find it especially strange its West Germany, because that would have been British/American troops, whereas it was the Russians who were known for their...less than merciful...behavior towards the end of the war. Are these all just stories you heard from a couple of people or is it generally believed to be true?

    thanks, for the english lesson. to answer your questions,
    first did you know that all commando unit,s are forbiddon to exercise in then west germany. the reason being that the onslaught and ferousity these men brought scared the life out of the wermacht they regulary slit throts, for a laugh in the war
    paddy blair maiyne being the biggist culprit. [an ulster hero}
    when the interns, escaped it was the local citizens, that rounded them up and handed them to the ss in celle. to put some light on the brainwashing of the german citizens,
    when i visited BELSEN we removed our berets and generaly showed are respect to the holocost memoriales and graves. but the german army solders were smoking and laughing at the graves and monuments there ,they didnt even remove their headdress.{big insult army wise}
    as for the slaughter i suppose it was the german army pyche {i was only obeying orders}
    remember these guys had guarded this place an many more like it , the war was comming to a big end the brass wanted to cover there ass big style
