    Hi,

My friend just got her hair cut by the style director in a hairdressers for about 90 euro and the cut is amazing.

Being a chronic hair colourer my hair-dressers bill is usually high enough without getting an expensive cut as well but I've been wondering....

Do any of you find that these expensive stylists are regularly significantly better than regular stylists or was my friend just lucky? Is it worth the extra money? I'd love someone to really do a good job on my hair!

I don't colour my hair at all but I get a very expensive cut. (100 after 30% student discount) I have curly hair which had been messed up so many times by hairdressers cutting it like straight hair and putting in the layers in the wrong places that at 13/14 I as good as stopped getting my hair cut. Even just a trim.

At 17 i had very mad, bushy, unruley hair which deperately needed a cut. I also have quite a square face and the long hair wasn't working for me. So just before college I decided to get it all cut off. Went into the hairdressers (using LC results money) and told them to do what they wanted with it. 4 and a half hours later I loved my hair again.

Now I can't afford my haircuts very often, and I like my hair fairly short and don't mind if it grows a bit. SO i get it cut 2 and half- 3 months apart and get a lot cut off. In a the hairdressers are worrying sense. I freak for about 3 days and then I love it again. Works the same as if I got cheap cuts every 6 weeks, or maybe a bit more but worth it because it is great.

Stylists however can be a b*tch to find, really good ones I mean. Just because someone is a senior stylists does not mean they understand your type of hair. My orginal stylist left the country and I bounced between 3 others till I found one who worked. The girls in reception always laughed becuase I always asked whether or not the hairdresser had curly hair.

Having a great hair cut on top of good colour looks really excellent. You could ask family/friends to get it for you as a birthday treat?

I'm really fortunate in so far as that I've really thick hair that keeps condition really well so I can let it go for months and months without it looking really bad.

At the moment my hair is really quite long but in ok condition so I feel with a nice cut it really has a lot of potential.

I always spend the extra money for a director or senior stylist, mostly because my hair is really curly and I've had too many bad experiences with novice hairdressers who have no idea what to do with curls. I think it's absolutely worth the money. Never try to save money when it comes to your hair, imo, wouldn't want to have to deal with any unpleasant results.

I'm in the states, but I doubt it makes a difference.

I always got to a style director.

My hair is short and you can really see the quality of the cut.

It grows out well, its easy to manage, and if i dont have time to get in every 8 weeks or(my hair grows v.quickly), I'll get another week or two without it looking dreadful!

I think its well worth the extra money tbh, you'll even find yourself using less product as a result.

    Go for it i say!!!

Right, there's a very good 5 star salon where I'm from down the country (better prices than Dublin too). I'll make an apointment for next time I'm down that way (early September) and get a cut from the owner, about 80 euro I think.

Excited now! :D Love getting my hair done!

oh my god its like reading my hair-biography!!! im the exact same, very thick unruly curly hair and get awful funny looks when i ask if the stylist has curly hair themselves or who has the most experience in the salon cutting curls! so many hairdressers think that straight and curly hair needs the same cut.

i have found an amazing stylist at the moment but she's not a director, a senior stylist is her title. €55 per cut every 6 weeks is the charge - not bad for good hair!! :)
