As the title suggests. We are not planning on getting married until late 2010, so when should we start doing things, planning etc?

    Thanks

    Hi Helena,
The main thing is popularity and availability. It really does depend on the item you're booking.
Hotels get busy on saturdays first, then fridays.
I just had a friend book a photographer 2 years in advance, he has a really good name (not my style, but horses for courses).
Wedding bands are next - the most popular get booked quickly, but be warned, the band you watch can change several/all members by the time your wedding comes up. funny story really, the bride didn't recognise the band at all - they were still a goo band though.

The normal planning that I've seen usually starts 18-12 months out.
It really doesn depend on the popularity of what you want though.

    hi helena

the place im looking to book for my reception has already started taking bookings for 2012 which i when im planning on getting hitched we are going to see about booking it next month.

so if u have a hotel in mind give them a call and ask when they booking for up to what year.

As others have said, the venue might need to be booked in advance, depending on where/when. I'm not sure about when you need to book a Church, if you're going that way, but with the registry office, give plenty of time, especially if you want to do a civil ceremony outside the registry office on a popular day.

There will be about 7 months between when we got engaged to when we're marrying and tbh, there are often stretches of weeks where the wedding doesn't even raise a thought, so don't worry if you've nothing to do!

    Good luck, and congrats!

I suppose the other thing to consider is if you are paying for the wedding yourself it also gives you time to save the pennies too

Best of luck with it all!!

We set our date 8 months in advance and I found that absolutely loads of time to do everything.

Tbh, I don't see the point of dragging the planning out for 18 months or two years.

Have to agree with Honey-ec, I started organising my wedding in February of this year and married in August. I enjoyed the experience so much I wish I could do it again soon.... I had plenty of time to organise everything and very little time to worry and second guess my choices. Got everything I wanted and even more, even though I had only 6 months to organise it.
