Camera Bag and Tripod

    Hi All,

After a recent outing down in Wicklow, I have concluded that my current bag and tripod are not really suited to the 'outdoor' life. I have a Lowepro shoulder bag and a big heavy tripod that folds down to about 3 feet.

I'm going to try a backpack - one that will hold a DSLR/Lens, maybe 2 extra lenses, Flash and cokin filter kit. It should also be able to have a tripod facility. Any recommendations ? I know I can look on the websites, but you never really get a good feel for gear from tiny pictures...a non-Lowepro would be nice for a change.

Also, a good tripd that folds down pretty small - I see the Manfrotto 190B recommended a lot, is it all that ??

    Thanks
    Paul

I've got a Hama SLR bag, which I bought on ebay for just over €30 delivered. Don't turn away just yet! It's actually quite good and roomy. It fits my 30d with 70-300 IS lens attached, two lenses (28-135 and 50 1.8) as well as the charger, cables and a spare bridge camera. And there's still room for another lens the size of the 18-55 kit. So I would say plenty of room for your setup. There's also a front pocket that can hold memory cards, filters, remotes, etc. It's compact enough to carry around all day without it annoying you.

Bought it here, which is quite cheap and very quick to deliver. It's the Hama Photo rucksack. In a not unrelated topic, my brother bought a tripod from the same place, which is sturdy enough for the 30d

no intention of turning away...I have another big bag, this is just a 2nd bag that will allow me a bit more freedom in the 'field' as it were. Anyway, I think Lowepro are hugely overpriced, given all they really offer over normal backpacks is dividers

I use a nature trekker AW and find it fits everything into it, it also comes with the attachment for a tripod. Might be a bit to big for you though, you can see a picture of it on the whats in your camera bag thread. A mini trekker classic might be more of what you are looking for. Sorry its Lowepro but I find them the best.

i have a Fastpack 250 as backpack, roomy enough for couple of standard zoom lenses and a 70-200 f4 attached to 40D. a top compartment should be decent for some personal stuff. unfortunately it doesn't have slot or attachment for tripod. sadly it's not AW but should be sealed alright.

i was looking at Manfrotto 190XPROB yesterday at Gunns. Cost about 130 euros, it's 1.8kg in weight. It's not the lightest but sturdy and cheap enough for a Manfrotto. I think 190MF4 or MF3 is lighter but will price as twice!

I just bought one of the lowepro inverse beltpacks, it can hold an slr, couple of lenses and a few little bits

cool thing is its an allweather beltback, so means you can get a strap for your tripod on ya back and this thing round your waist. and its small enough to make you not carry too much, which i am always prone to
