but there are fun parts to most jobs ,
gardi get to speed around the place with the siren on if they wanna get lunch
bartenders get to drink after hours till like 7am
firemen get to spurt water at hot suff bla bla bla
    whats your job like?

Not when when you don't do lights on until 5:30am and you have to get 7 tired staff to clean up and it takes 1.5hrs.
One drink, some food, then home time.

If it's a quiet night/weekend shift I can get 12 hours of boreds in. It's either :D or

Working with highly volatile solvents and toxic chemicals in the early hours of the morning is not my idea of fun. Though I have to admit that some of the stuff has, allegedly, been used for some really interesting 'experiments' late at night, one of which left one guy here a lovely bright orange colour for a few days until it washed off, and another had to get the doctor called in after inadvertently inhaling fumes from a leaking reactor and was told by the doctor that it was the equivalent of inhaling 10-15 pints. The hangover the following day was something savage.

Another thing about chemical plants, water at 10bar pressure in fire hoses hurts.

    ....or DO you?

Nope, about as interesting as watching paint dry most of the time.
I've developed a repetitive task injury as a result... short attention span. :(
Go into work -> shut down thinky thingy -> do job -> ooohhh hometime!:)

very boring, mundane 9 -5 stuff. sometimes i actually feel guilty for the amount of time i spend on the internet messing around.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 283 ✭✭dee8839

Nope, lots of surfing the net and some dull paperwork. Not really what I imagined my future career would be like! (Its only an 8 month work placement thank god), but there are good things like going out to see the job in practice and the work lunches and nights out are savage! Last week this week and I'll be sort of sad to leave...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,738 ✭✭✭Naos

    Nope, pretty boring.

Thus prompting me to actually start thinking seriously as I'm not spending the next 40-50 years doing something that doesn't interest me.

I do what I've always wanted to do, I don't have to work for the man, everyday is different, I'm respected for the work I do, I get to meet cool people and make lots of good friends.

I make about as much money as a church mouse on a bad day and work really long hours and am constantly in debt.

    You tell me...

On six months work placement now and man its a load of balls. Just wanna get back to college.

Yesterday I got a grand total of two emails and one phone call to deal with. The second of the emails was a thank you reply for me dealing with the first btw. Thank God for Boards, it keeps me occupied.

Ive a 9-5 admin job which is boring at the best of times. But also work in a bar at the weekends which is great. Where else can ya challenge a customer to drink a pint of guinness quicker then ya, and not to mention the women. Have to laugh, barjob doesnt really require any education, money aint great and ya have to refuse people from timt to time, but the women love it. Cant understand it, Im a fat **** and get more women then most my mates :D

I like my job now but m leaving that soon to join the army, just waiting on the letter.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,854 ✭✭✭zuutroy

I'm funded by the EU to do 'research' but in truth no one cares if I do anything, so basically I get paid to do what I want. My contract is up in a few months, so these days I roll in at 11 do a bit of work and head off at 4. The only reason I do anything is coz I want to go to a conference in Montreal soon. Whats better is the Irish Government have given me 2 more years funding for when I get home...so thanks tax payers mwuahahaha!

I like my job at the moment as I got transferred to a better section. The paperwork is a bit much at times but I'm getting used to it. Dealing with the public is tiring and sometimes fruitless, but occasionally you get to do something decent for good people.

Boring and frustrating. Luckily im only temping for a few weeks.

The work is fail tbh but I get free tickets to a lot of gigs and they're flexible enough so I like it.

I cry myself to sleep at night

in joy for the next day. My job rules, I have a position of power over people who earn 6 or 7 digit salary's.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 570 ✭✭✭stevecrow74

i get to work 2 - 3 hours every now and again, during that time i get to drink beer and whiskey(or what ever takes my fancy), with quite a few hot chic's dancing around in front of me, nearly always end up at a party afterwards where there is always copious amounts of alcohol and wimmin, dont ever have to wake up before 2pm (unless i have to find my own bed) and still get paid more per hour than anyone else i know that has a proper job ;)

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 585 ✭✭✭lisajane

I hate my job. I work with people i hate and its the same thing day in day out. I would leave but im very fussy. I have been job hunting but i haven't any job offers yet.
I feel as if im wasting my brain there. I never use it. As long as im still there, i have to keep my mind active in other ways. In the past two years i have learnt how to drive, swim and now im taking guitar lessons. I dont know what else il learn after the guitar. Any ideas?

    f?

Nah, not really, and when you're a barman you have to deal with abuse and assholes. Just yesterday I had to deal with a drunken ass trying to belittle my life cuz I'm a barman and 23. I'm IN BETWEEN jobs thanks very much ;)
But the few beers after work can be sweet but it ends up becoming a way to blow off steam and next thing ya know, you're an alcoholic!!
