I have periodental disease too and have been getting treatment for over 8 months now. I'd say that it wouldn't be advisable to fit a veneer until the disease has been dealt with as you're still loose bone and gum tissue and your teeth could move.

That's not an expert opinion but based on my experience so discuss it with your dentist.

I wanted a crown fitted to a tooth and my dentist said it wouldn't be advisable as it may have to be replaced in a couple of years so I'd be spending money needlessly.

You can have a crown fitted as you are treated for gum disease.I had ten crowns fitted while i was being treated.

Yes you may have some gum loss and yes you may have some gaps in your teeth, you can have the crown fitted as a temp and if there is some gap, than it can be removed and porcelian added as needed.

Having being had some major treatment for gum disease and being treated in the USA and the UK,and having nearly very tooth i have crowned i rekon i know a little about this subject.

My advise is Find the right Perio as this disease left late like in my case, causes problems forever,it is with you for life.I had all four quads opened and cleaned in one setting,i went to a Hospital and got knocked out, usually it takes several visits to have it done. That was not the end,i still have deep root cleanings and see a perio a couple times a year.

Find a perio that has the latest equipment, there is software that they use with there tools, that measure the pockets, and in turn they know how deep the pockets are and what treatment is nessacary.Find the perio,do Not have your regular dentist do this.I know here, that dental assistants do perio work in Ireland and the Uk.You need a perio to diagnose you and direct you in the right direction.Ask questions and do research.Do not just take any old person suggested.

Lainey, how strange is right, do not have veneer fitted until perio treatment is completed and gingival margin (gum) is stable, if you do have it fitted now there is a risk the gum will receed and you will get a dark line above veneer which is particularly disappointing on a front tooth. Also, listen to your dentist, if perio disease is mild he/she may be able to treat it, if severe/chronic a specialist referrral may be in order. You will probably only ever do this once so it is best to be patient and get the best result.
