Dry skin?! I've finally found the cure!

Hey, I've just finally found the solution to my ridiculous skincare issues and decided to spread the word!

I have been a slave to dry skin for years. If water ever went near my skin, it would flake off, so every time I showered I had to exfoliate the sh!t out of my face and then pack on the moisturiser immediately. Even after doing this, as soon as I put on my makeup, my skin would dry out and I'd look all scaly. Disaster. I'd never met anyone with skin as dry as mine so no one could recommend me any products! I used MAC moisturising foundation at the time, and spent a small fortune on really expensive exfoliating washes and triple-action moisturisers from Clinique, but still had serious skin issues.

I have, however, finally found a combination of products that leave my skin all soft and lovely, even with makeup on my skin is still smooth! In the shower, I use Soap & Glory Flake Away exfoliator on my face (I found it in the body creams section in Boots, it's actually meant for legs, it's really strong but it's the only thing that works for me). Then when I get out, I use Soap & Glory The Righteous Butter moisturiser (again, it's a body moisturiser, but it works miracles for me and people with exceptionally dry skin. Only thing is, it's perfumed so if you're prone to rashes mabe give this one a miss). The best thing is, it's so cheap! It cost me about 20 euro for both together, and because they're body products they come in huge pink tubs which last for ages!

I assumed that MAC was the messiah of makeup, but on dry skin it's disasterous, so I switched to Clinique. My friend recommended their Dewy Smooth foundation range, which is somewhat moisturising, but I found it wasn't moisturising enough. The Clinique consultant recommended the Supermoisture foundation range, which is a lifesaver! The only thing is, it leaves your face very shiny, so you do need a good powder to set over it. I use MAC pressed powder, it's great and doesn't leave anything dry!

I've been using this new skincare routine religiously for about a month and it's the only thing that works for me! I hope that another extremely dry skinned girl might benefit!

Congrats on finding a regime that's right for your skin! :) My sister also has very dry skin similar to what you describe so I will pass your advice on to her.

Sounds stupid but try natural yogurt, it's great for your skin and really good for sunburn too

i used to have this problem too, i went through different phases of finding things that worked - first was using body shop blue corn exfoliating mask as a daily scrub, then using clean and clear cream wash but leaving it on for a minute or two in the shower while i did my legs or whatever.

nowadays, my final solution is toner. it seems like i can wash my face with whatever i like, as long as i use a toner afterwards. the toner does a better job of taking off the flakey bits than any exfoliater. i figure for me it was the flakey bits that were the real problem and once the PH and everything was evened out with toner it all settled down. try it out i u ever feel the body wash/moisteriser thing stops working for you. i know i started developing blackheads recently which when i was in my early 20s were never a problem, so now i'm being more careful about the kind of moisturisers i use.

(top tip: try running a cotton bud soaked in toner over your lips to remove the yucky bits of skin and smooth everything out, rinse it off and apply lip balm/gloss/lipstick).

I know this has more to do with what you put inside rather than outside your body but a homeopath recommended it and my skin is way better and less sensitive.

Take 1 dessertspoon full of Extra Virgin (HealthFood Shop, good brand not supermarket one) of Olive Oil before breakfast and another dessertspoon of it before bed...

We don't get enough good fats, heating them during cooking takes away their benefits and the fats in most processed foods are terrible. Really did work. Makes sense.
