Enhancing signal of Sky channels

I got my 37 inch Full HD TV last Friday (upgraded from a 26 inch) and hooked it up to SKY+. I was wondering if there is some way to improve channels from the SKY box by first sending them through an intermediate device which would perform some filtering/improvement of the signal, and produce a cleaner picture on the TV? I tried connecting my SKY box via s-video to my HTPC and viewing the channels via MCE but there wasn't any (noticeable) improvement. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

To start with get a good quality cable to go from the sky box to the TV. I'd a good scart cable.

You are displaying SD resolution and more than likely sub-SD resolutions with low bitrates on FullHD TV. Depending on the TV, the channels viewed can be acceptable to terrible quality of image.

RTE, NET2, TV3 & BBC1 & BBC2 & Sky One display in SD resolution with good bitrate. The majority of the rest are in sub-SD resolution (512x512) with low, very low bitrates.

Edit: Do you have RGB enabled in Sky+ box "Picture Settings", PAL is the default and looks terrible.

Yes, I have RGB enabled. It was one of the first things I did after I got the box installed. In general, the channels are ok, but there are some that are brutal.

What would be a good scart cable? Are we talking more than 50 euro?

You could get an amplifier that may upscale the sd sky to 720p or even 1080p.I'm not sure how much a good upscaling amp would cost but i would imagine around 300e
