So apparently things actually do happen in Limerick. A great way to christen my 40D, looking for some feedback...

#1 I think there is too much sky and the boarder is too small in the frame. The people by the railings take away from it too.

#2 would be better if you cropped the wall from the left hand side and possibly if the backgroup was less in focus.

#4 Not too fond of the tone but that's just me. It's a good capture but the dude to the right of the board takes away from the shot.

Well done on your first attempt shooting skate boarders and on the 40D.

    Nice shots, particularly 2,3,4

I think they're all very nice, but with one or two things that you can adjust/try next time.

#1 the sky is blown. I always get this. It's a balancing act between shutter speed and apenture in manueal mode in these cases. And you might even need a filter or two.

#2 is my favourite. Think the selective colouring is a little cheesy, but that's a personal thing. Would like to see it with more contrast between the blacks and the whites. The same things I'd say for #3.

Skateboarding is a very fast, young sport. I think you need to show that in the pics. Fill them with colour and contrast and passion!

#4 is a great shot, especially considering his eyes are so clear and focused in itm but I wouldn't put that old fashioned treatment on it in a million years. Another candidate for high-contrast b&w in my opinion. (the expression on the bloke under his legs is brilliant, by the way.)

    oh crap!
I was gonna go to this but assumed it wasnt gonna be on cause it was raining here :p

Only managed to catch 20 mins this evening before it started raining, should have come up yesterday, gutted.

I like them, the last one just needs a bit more pop/contrast

CHeck out my version of your second one, taken last year.

Yup, thumbs up for the colour one. Though the b&w one aint half bad either!

Coloured one looks really awesome!!! :D:D:D

Colour one for me, then B&W, and I wouldn't bother with sepia, I always find sepia is for a 'back in the day' shot, rather than action

personally number 3 for me, good shotm and the pop colour looks like an ad
    :pac:

For skateboarding you need to get more of the obstacle and the skater move back a bit :)

    no.1 & 3 are too close
no.2 is pretty nice in an artsy way same with paudies both the best shots(skating wise)
no.4 is good only you dont know what hes doing the trick on. also my friend is in the background looking at him :P

*all above from a skateboarders point of view, ive been skateboarding 7 years*

From a photographers whose never shot skating before there all pretty good :)

If you want to get into shooting skating or just want to see some good examples have a browse through here you find some pretty amazing stuff.

Was just going to say something along those lines: I think #3 is a great shot, catching the action (revolving skateboard) at just the right time. I'm guessing you know that tubes is a skate shop in Cork. I'd say they'd be well impressed if you showed this photo to them. They may even buy it...

Yeah, was thinking about that. Theres one here in Limerick as well, and I was gonna sound them out. Could be good for a few yo-yo.

I doubt it tbh. tubes make only decks as far as im aware if they want to use it as advertising they would need to prove these boards are good. Picture doesn't really prove it at all.. just looks like a "edited" snapshot but hey go for it if you get money for it all the better. :)
