Heading over for a week on Tuesday and really fancy hitting a club or two. I'm just looking for great music more than anything else. Some dubstep would be awesome, otherwise techno or anything fun. Anyone had much experience of great laid back or seriously fun clubs over there?

This may sound awfully ignorant but... Isn't it wise to avoid Brixton at night?

Ive had two good nights in Fabric anyway, music very good. Great club. Simian Mobile Disco residents there...

Brixton is actually safer than most Irish towns on a Saturday night. I'm originally from Sligo, but have been living right in the middle of Brixton for the past 2 years. Seriously, I see way more trouble in Sligo at the weekend than I ever do here. Mainly because people don't get p*ssed out of their minds on alcohol here (they take other substances which generally make people more mellow).

You'll be fine in Brixton if you don't bring attention to yourself.

With regard to clubs, you'll only get dubstep every two months at Mass (aka St Mathews Church) in the heart of Brixton. That's the DMZ night, which is always brilliant. They got one hell of a sound system in there, and a buzzing atmosphere. In fact the next one is on Saturday September 6th. Are you here that Saturday ?

Hmmm, Club 414. They play very hard techno, I would call it pill music myself. Not a bad place though, I always have an interesting night there chatting to people from all over.

Also for dubstep, you can check out Forward at Plastic People on Sunday nights. Another good sound system, and usually big name dubstep DJs. That's in East London, near Old Street - http://www.plasticpeople.co.uk/forward.shtml But do try and find out what's on in advance.

There's lots of other great clubs in Brixton playing all sorts of dance music. If you want something a bit more easy going, they usually have good sets playing into the early hours on Fridays and Saturdays in The Prince Of Wales pub http://www.beerintheevening.com/pubs/s/34/345/Prince_of_Wales/Brixton.

I totally recommend Brixton for a night out. It's the reason I moved to the place !:D

There's a very poor selection of places to stay in Brixton, you're probably best to get a budget hotel somewhere more central. Or maybe see if there's anything around Clapham which is within a couple of miles of Brixton.
Here's a not great list of Brixton places:

Cheers. Thinking of heading over for Underworld in the Brixton Academy in November. Clapham sounds like a good idea
