Probably be the wheels next for me. I do like the idea of a carbon stem though. And a flux capacitor for when i make it up to 88mph!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,995 ✭✭✭✭blorg

Nice stuff and all quality components there littleknown, both the skewers and stem are plenty light too- this is for a cross bike? Post up a pic of the bike eh?

I'd be considering a FSA OS-99 for the stem, bit lighter than the Rotor and available cheaper too, but doesn't have the red faceplate!

Carbon stems are heavier than alloy though - best bear that in mind!

im starting using this this and building it up, what came on the bike isnt bad but ive always planned on replacing most parts just didnt have the cash on hand to get everything at once so will be a slow process. the frame seperate was almost the same as the whole bike so figured best to buy the basic model and then use the parts for another bike.

    http://www.canyon.com/_en/mountainbikes/index.html?b=146

so far ive picked up a thomson masterpiece seatpost, selle italia prolink saddle, truvatic team carbon handlebars, xtr pedals, next will be the wheels and maybe xtr chainset.

    any suggestions??

Looks like a nice bike as is littleknown, although I know nothing about mountain bikes!

From the road side the general advice would be wheels as no.1 upgrade, completely to do with practical improvement rather than bling. I am guessing that from the MTB side this would also hold true, maybe with the fork as No. 2 (again I know nothing but the fork you have on it seems like a good one and a lot of fork for a €999 bike.)

Generally I would take a view of not replacing something unless I think it is really going to have a benefit. No point spending hundreds to save 20g.

Again I don't know about MTB but another place you may see weight reduction is in the tyres.

im beginning to get hooked picking up modifications for my bike, pathetic, expensive and unecessary i know but hey, ever find yourself getting more into building up the bikes themselves than actually using them? easy in this weather.,

Are you worried about getting it dirty?

    €60 skewers?

    WTF.

My newly attached rear-mounted carrier :pac:

I'm not joking. It takes my hybrid a bit more away from a racer or a mt and towards just being a bicycle! :p

My favorite retro bling would be the old campag record delta brake calipers like lemond & Indurain used to use, also the old Time pedals and shoes in white and red....a la Delgado!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,896 ✭✭✭fish-head

Those Deltas were cool alright. By all accounts they weren't up to much though.

Bloody hell ... that's not very pretty ... sorry ... i am a girl too but still I try to keep things simple either on the fixie or on the road bike ... I have a pinkish saddle on my fixie ... http://www.wiggle.co.uk/images/charge-ladle-saddle-med.jpg ( the bottom one )

Yep thats nice too. Do you find it comfy? My saddle at the mo is the one that came with my bike, and I know its not right for me. Its too hard and too narrow to be comfy. Plus it doesnt feel right for my back.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,001 ✭✭✭scottreynolds

well. im looking at putting a few bits of quality with a dash of red into the fold with these.

I saw some pretty crazy looking RED stuff on the bikes on the bikeradar reports of interbike. I believe the craziest thing was definately the red sprocket set .... or the red cranks.

I like it a lot but I do wear cycling underwear most times too ... I use it without padding too, but for short rides.

Don't like that saddle _at all_ but the panniers and bag are nice. Nice saddle Caroline BTW, like the detailing. Charge Plugs are meant to be very comfortable.

Ultimate bike bling shop has to be Fairwheel. Crazy lightweight parts in all kinds of colours. Its the place you want to go if you want stuff like a blue cassette lockring or $1,600 brakes.

Blorg I knew you liked your pink hand bags ... ( I think you are going to get slagged big time ... )

Nothing wrong with a pink man bag. My Lance balls have been hanging off the back of my saddle since I got back although I haven't had a chance to try them out yet.

While we are on the topic of saddles, here are my B17, Swift and Swallow, along with the new Team Pro on my fixie:

A question for people who have lots of nice things for their bike... like nice saddles etc?

Whats the chances of these getting nicked while your bike is parked? I dont think anyone would want to steal my bike - but if I add good bits that are easily removed are they really likely to get nicked?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,676 ✭✭✭Gavin

    You need....

    ...security bling!

    http://www.wiggle.co.uk/p/Cycle/7/Pinhead_Four_Pack_Locking_Skewer_Set/5360029670/

Despite the shameful price, I do actually own these, and they're lovely.

This doesn't stop someone from unbolting your saddle, so some solder in the allen bolts might be a good idea.

But in the end, nothing defeats a Dremel.

It's an Alps thing :pac: (little packable bags from Decathlon) Have you got that Pista Concept out at all yet? I'd honestly whack a front brake on it and take to the road, I presume the track doesn't start up again until next year?

Yep, no more track until next year. I was still tweaking things on it this week, but its now running perfectly. Believe it or not, I ordered a road fork and front brake last night.

Eh no. I'll probably only use it as a run around to get more accustomed to riding fixed with a view to next year.

Would love to do the Galway spin, but I'd find it hard to justify disappearing for half the weekend.

Not shiny but its my favourite purchase in ages. Its made by iscaselle and covered in a kind of alcantera type stuff. Don't know much about it except that it will look nice on my fixie. I think its pretty old. Anyone take a guess at its age?
