Dead USB Stick

    Hi all

A pal gave me a dead USB stick to have a go at fixing.

When you plug it in it is detected fine.

When you click on it in My Computer, it says

"This disk is not formatted, would you like to format it now?"

Is this memory stick beyond repair?

    Thanks

If you format it what happens? it often fixes it, you'll lose your data obviously. What manufacturer is it? It was probably plugged out without doing the old 'safely eject hardware'.

What happens when you format it?

I have not formatted it at all, for fear of losing the data.

    It's a strange one alright.

if windows thinks it is not formatted your data is most likely corrupt and therefore lost....just format it
