As the thread says i'm in a fix. Story is I completed prof 1 exams and passed them with c.p.a but due to family commitments I never got to sit prof 11. So much time has elapsed now that I 'm not permitted to sit these exams with c.p.a. I 'm fully committed now to qualify but where? I have been in contact with iipa and there is no problem there - sit 4 exams with them , pass them and i qualify - could be all over by next summer! but reading up on them I dont know would the qualification be worth the paper its written on. On the other hand should I contact acca , aca , cima - i have a feeling i may have to start from the start - not an option or should i just do 1 year and qualify as an accounting technician and go from there? Im 31 and currently not working in accountancy though I have around 6 years experience in practice. Please Please - can anyone help

You should know accountants don't work weekends.

Please contact us again on Monday morning.

    Thank you

    - Disclaimer before I start, I am an employee of the IIPA

IIPA is a recognised accountancy body under the law of Ireland and EU directive. Our education system has been reviewed and approved by IAASA (as has the rest of our system). We are currently recognised to authorise auditors, as well as qualifying accountants - statements that have been made that we are restricted from authorising auditors is completely false.

We are small, but that is not necessarily a bad thing, it generally allows us to be flexible and get to know our members and students in a way that no other body has. We have members working world wide as well as in Ireland. We also have the largest percentage of members who are the owners of their own practice - and that is the area we are strongest in.

Education has been growing rapidly in the last 18 months, and we have tripled our number of students in the last year. We have launched an initial version of our course on line, and will have the full course available in September 2009.

As and accountant I have passed the final exams of CIMA and CIPFA, and have taught at the final level of the CPA and I can tell you the standard is very similar. We do not publish our own books and so use those of other bodies, mostly the ACCA text at the same level. I have also looked at the other bodies systems and while there are differences between each of these, you might be surprised to know that there are far more similarities than there are differences.

Before making assumptions about any particular accounting qualification take a look at the qualifications of certain former board members of disgraced financial institutions might be illustrative.

    Richard

Go back, start again or check if your will get the exemptions with ACCA. It is worth it in the end. lots of posts on the difference between each of the bodies - so there is no need for me to repeat them here. Just pick a qualification that will get you a job - so look at what the job adverts require.

It makes no difference yo. IF your good at your job then you'll be successful. Its not about the piece of paper but the person behind it. Pick one or do one in line with a position your taking, whatever the case may be. Makes sfa difference, just gang bang it and get on with your career plan. peace out mo fo
