OK this is probably gonna sound ridiculous for a person in her 20's but I haven't the faintest idea where to start buying and wearing makeup like foundation or powder!! I love my mascara, eyeshadows, lipsticks, lip glosses etc and I'm a slave to good skin care but I am really sallow skinned and want to brighten up a bit but without going tango! :p any suggestions? cheers :)

You must have good skin! I'd say stick to a tinted moisturiser until you need more coverage!

If you must.... what brands of make-up/skincare do you use already? If you are a regular customer with a certain brand you could swing yourself a free make-up consultation. Try a few different foundation types and see how you get on. Just make sure you do try on you jawline (NOT YOUR HAND!) before buying anything. Also, try and step out into natural light to see if the colour blends in with you skin.

The foundation type will depend on your skin type and what coverage you want and finish it gives i.e matte, dewy, semi-matte, powder etc.

I like MAC Face & Body and make-up Forever Face & Body. I find loose translucent powder great for setting the foundation or you can use a compact powder. Just get one that doesn't have much or any colour in it so you don't look caked!

Id say invest in a good quality foundation and brush it really makes all the difference. Head into somewhere like 'MAC' or 'Make-Up Forever' and explain you have never worn foundation before and they will help you out no problem!

Tip tho, if you go into mac, have a look around at the MA's and ask the girl who's look you like the best cos chances are she will pick something similar to her own. [In my personal experience]

    Good luck! :D

Everyday Minerals, ftw. If you've never worn foundation before you'll likely find liquid foundation far too heavy. And if you have good skin and simply want to brighten up your color a bit then there's really no need for such a heavy base. If you go to Everydayminerals.com you can order samples. I'd start out with a foundation and a good finishing powder with a bit of color, like the Cool Pink. Also, a good blush will do wonders. I just bought this one: http://www.aveyou.com/thebalmhotmamaall-in-oneblushshadowhighlighter.aspx
and it's fabulous. Very natural and long-lasting, but I'm not sure if it's available in Ireland or not.

I tried this foundation out last night and I was impressed by it. I wouldn't say it gives great coverage, I still needed to get the concealer out, but it certainly evens out the skin tone. And I had to keep checking that it was on coz I couldn't feel it on my skin. When I got the sample pots I was like "Ooh they're a bit small" but I found I didn't need to use that much.

I'm gonna give it another go tonight - when I've more time to put it on me, I was in a bit of a rush last night.

Hi, im sallow skinned too and I dont like wearing foundation either. If you have not used it before a tinted moisturoiser or a mineral make up would probably do best for day wear and save the heavier stuff for special occasions? I dont believe in using foundation every day unless you need it!
Everyday I use the body shop vitamin e tinted moisturoiser. its great value lasts ages and if you ask they will probably give you a small sample to try. I also use loreal mineral make up. If you have sallow skin you are probably warm complexion so try a tester of the ones starting with 'w' w4 i sthe one I use i think!

I have tried ALOT of make ups, and did a make up course too, and the one that I am using is from the Body Shop! Its a tinted moisturiser one, and gives a lovely duwy look to my skin, and isn't heavy at all, feels like I've no make up on at all!

I've bought a Nivea Tinted Moisturiser since I posted and have worn it every day. It's really light and does give a bit of colour and healthy shine to my skin, at last! :p Think I'll stick with it for daywear and I'll experiment with some of your suggestions. :)

Go for a make-up consultation. They should tell you what suits you, how to apply etc.
