Experimental change to Shooting For Sale/Wanted Charter.

Experimental change to Shooting For Sale/Wanted Charter.

When the Shooting For Sale/Wanted forum was first established, many of the General Rules were carried over from Adverts.ie, as this was a well established trading system under the Boards.ie umbrella and it was felt that it provided a well tried and tested template for the new Shooting specific facility.

Some of these rules however, have proven to be problematical in their implementation; mostly Rule 1, “All dealings on thread - the golden rule,” and a few others that flow from it.
This rule appears to be workable over on the main Adverts.ie site, but many of the items offered for sale here are very specialised in nature and often quite valuable, so it's impractical to expect sellers to advertise their items exclusively here and not try to maximise their exposure to what is in the real world a relatively small pool of potential buyers.

Quite frankly, the mods here are tired of trying to implement a rule which many posters (inadvertently or otherwise) ignore, which doesn't fit comfortably with many of the items offered and the nature of the target market, and which is nigh on impossible to enforce in the real world anyway.

So, on an experimental basis for a month or so, here’s what’s we're planning to do:
    • 'Shooting For Sale/Wanted' becomes a notice board, rather than a trading site.
    • Sellers post their items and interested parties contact them by whatever means is provided (PM or ’in thread’ in this case), the same as if they provide a phone number or e-mail address in Buy and Sell or Auto Trader or wherever, and let them get on with it from there.
    • All negotiations are entirely the business of the individuals involved, and the Shooting For Sale/Wanted forum has no involvement (and accepts no further responsibility) other than providing the facility to put them in touch with each other in the first place.
    • An asking price must be stated.
    • No private telephone numbers or e-mail addresses in thread, exchange these by PM.
    • Sellers are asked to state if their item is offered for sale elsewhere, and to post in thread when the item is sold.
    • ‘For Sale:’ threads that have had no traffic for 2 weeks will be closed; sellers should keep an eye on their thread and post an ‘item still for sale’ message before the deadline if necessary.

We'll run with this for a month or so to see how it works, and constructive feedback from you guys on these changes would be much appreciated.

We'll temporarily amend the existing Charter to reflect this experimental policy; if you spot any anomalies/contradictions, let us know about them and we'll tidy up.

All the general rules as regards commercial advertising and illegal/licensable goods or items that require authorisation still apply, and the moderators reserve the right to raise this in thread.

I think we can safely say this has worked at this stage :D
