Course repair - AAAAAAGGGHHHHHH!!

This morning I awoke to the beautiful sound of my alarm clock, showing 06:30, beautiful, only today, because I was on the first tee for 7:00AM for a quick 9 holes before work. An ill-timed injury prevented me playing for the last 6 weeks, and now, I'm chomping at the bit.

After about 6 holes I noted, to my playing partner, the ridiculous amount of pitch-marks that were un-repaired. Then it clicked with me.

Yesterday was Ladies' Day. They looked like they went through the course with crow-bars. It was an absolute disgrace.

Later on I mentioned it to one of the green-keepers.

"Is it like this every week?" I asked him.

"You wouldn't believe it," he replied. "Every week it's the same!"

Next question. Who's going to say it to them?

I think women get a bad rap in terms of golf to be honest. From my experience, men are far worse at repairing pitch marks and divots etc...

They generally tend to play pretty quickly too.

(i fully expect to get abuse for this by the way!:D)

Doesn't anyone use spell-checkers any more?

Or, does "Disgrimination" mean something new?

Who cares, it's a message board, not an English essay.

By the way, i'd imagine every club in the country is struggling with pitch marks at the moment due to the rainfall we've had in the past few weeks.

My point was about the blatant lack of respect from the players yesterday in not repairing them. This conduct is absolutely unacceptable.

It is unacceptable not to repair pitch marks. You seem to be suggesting that women are worse at repairing pitch marks than men, is that correct?

In fairness to him, he's saying it's particularly bad after the specific day on which ladies play. And that this was echoed by the greenkeeper as a regular problem.

They're simple facts so, in his club, yeah it's safe to say ladies don't repair marks as men do.

Meh, I regularly notice pitch marks not repaired when I'm playing regardless of what gender is playing up ahead. I don't think golfers in general are diligent about repairing pitch marks. I always try to repair mine plus one other (if I can find one) on each green. I feels like it is mostly high handicappers who don't repair them, regardless of whether they are male or female.

Different people have different experiences. I probably see more single figure guys that ignore doing it than I do high guys. But it's different everywhere.

I was more taking up the point that you seemed to be suggesting Golferx was unfairly criticising women golfers in his club.

I suppose I just feel like any time there is an opportunity to take a dig at female golfers it is readily taken.

Maybe you need to chill out and not be so sensitive?

that's cos it's usually bleedin well deserved wha!? ;)

Ah yeah, seriously though, I know what you mean. I caddy'd in a ProAm one time where one of the Ams in my group had parked in the Lady Captain's space, citingthe rationale that she shouldn't be on the course that day anyway.

Of course she showed up and I don't have time to write what transpired but rest assured, it was funny sh*t - yer man wasn't exactly a shining example of ettiquette!!

They do get surplus and often unwarranted stick but at the same time, there's a growing worry of being sexist or non PC resulting in people walking on egg-shells around issues where a golfer or group of golfers are blatantly in the wrong. Hence the final remark in the OP.

Wouldnt put it all down to the ladys myself more general golfers not giving a damn in dampish conditions.

I am picky about this and always go out of my way to repairs marks on greens in my own place and anywhere else I play. I played 9 in my own place yesterday and the greens were in bits and on av I repaired 2 marks per green. The soft conditions mean a lot of shots that would never mark are doing so and the guys and gals who never repair are making even more marks for the rest of us to resolve!

Interesting question, how many of us have a pitch mark repair tool and how many carry it on them in a round?
