...are sexy. Like black jeans. My 350D is probably not the most comfortable camera to use but the battery grip is so awesome, with two batteries it really gives the whole camera a more solid feel.

Also, bought a CompuDaypack. It's great too.

Is there a point to this thread or are you just showing off what new gear you got :pac:

350D without a battery grip is a pain in the hole.
I used it as a back up camera at a wedding a few days ago and got a blister....

black jeans? Wasn't Nick Kamen the last person to wear those??

edit: sorry, just watched it - he stonewashed his jeans :-)

Yeah, battery grips are a great aid if you've got big hands, or you're using heavy lenses, Tbh, I think I've taken off my battery grip on my 5D once since I've bought it, and couldn't wait to get it back on.

Seeing as this is a current topic ...

I was looking at the Battery Grip for the Nikon D300 .... but do not have the budget right now. Has anyone tried one of the non-genuine grips you see on the bay?

I've seen them being used - buyer beware though - A lot of them don't give the same amount of charge as the real deal, more of them have a weak tripod socket, and even more of them don't always have the shutter release (and especially the other controls) on the vert. I'm not sure if they'll give you the extra framerate on the D300 either.

Probably best saving for a genuine one :)

I've always seen them as an unnecessary upgrade adding too much bulk and weight to the camera, sure just carry a couple of extra batteries with you and you'll be grand :p

Yeah I can subscribe to this, met Desertfox in a pub recently and tried a 70-200 2.8 with a grip for the 1st time and straight away it felt so much better than my 450D solo using one, balance been the key as I notice I struggle with balance when I have it on my Cam.
Must get round to getting one in a few weeks.

There seems to be two different one's that I have seen. One of them looks quite 'boxy' but does have 2 extra shutter releases. From what I have read they do give you the extra frame rate too, but tbh 6 fps is probably faster than I have ever needed.

After using a D2H when shooting on a job recently I did like having the second shutter release. The price of the genuine grip seems an overkill for just that function for my uses.

I always carried a spare battery for the D70S & I have a charger in the car. So I could just do the same again with a spare battery from 7DayShop. The D300 will give 1000 frames from one battery though, so more than likely I will not use that too much unless I let it run down by accident.

Quoting myself rocks - I should have said that I want to take the CompuDayPack as carry-on luggage. Will this cause problems?

Oh wow, didn't notice. But honestly, they're pretty awesome pieces of kit. And the girl in Gunnes was way nice about it, helped me out with the rubber viewfinder seal too.

It's weird because my hands are particularly small and girly. But I still find that the camera body falls away in my hand. and the 17-40mm is actually a little wider than the body, so this kinda evens things out.

Yea I got a grip for my 350D and I took it off awhile ago just to clean the body and there was a massive difference it feels really small and fragile. Battery grips are the way to go.. even if you have small hands!

Oh nice deal. The 350/400D share a grip afaik, I might pick one up for my 400D back up body. The CompuDayPack is a great travel bag aswell btw, I recently flew all over America with it and had no problems with carry on regs.

Can some explain to me what it is? is it a grip so you can hold the camera vertically?
and you slap in two batteries and bob is your proverbial uncle?

    Pic One

    Pic two

Gives the camera a sturdier feel if you have larger hands and it gives you fantastic battery life. I've charged my 40D only 10 odd times since I bought it because of the battery grip.

Its job is to give you a better grip and extra power for the camera.

Not sure about your family tree though, maybe check with your folks about "Bob's" actual relationship with you.

Is the grip designed to be used by photographers who use their right eyes? My left eye is dominant and I always find it a nuisance to be right handed and left eyed.

the grip will have zero effect on this.

If fact I have no idea what put this into your head.
I am also left handed, I use my right hand to hold the camera and release the shutter, my left hand supports the camera and controls the focus in manual focus !

Does anyone know of Canon make a grip for the 450D? I looked at the Canon site but cant find one mentioned. If there is, how much would I expect to pay for it?

    Thanks

I am right handed but left eyed and this causes issues for me when firing a rifle as you can imagine. I get tied up in knots. I envisage that because of the location of the shutter release in the vertical mode that this would cause a problem with the battery grip too.

1st; STAY AWAY FROM GUNS !

2nd; normally the vertical shutter release is in the same position as the standard release as in top right hand corner.. so it wont be any different.
If its a serious issue you could get a small remote and strap it to the camera and use it to release the shutter..

I really think you should qualify this...I don't think I'm the only one who'd heartily recommend the shop and its prices.
