    Hi there,

I've put this down on my CAO, and hopefully I'll get accepted, what I'd like to know is, is this course good? any pointers or observations from students currently doing it? and is ITB a good place to study too?

If anyone wants to give me some info as to what the course is like that would be good, I've looked at the web page, and it gives you the modueles that you study etc... But any other info would be fantastic (e.g class size, hours per week etc...) :D

    Cheers,

    Tim

Well I started there when it first opened in 1999 so it was just one building back then. It's grown now though. We started out with about 35-ish people but that dropped to around 20 after four years (going from cert->diploma->degree).

Anyway I really enjoyed the course. Big emphasis on hands on working as opposed to just theory. Really enjoyed the networking side (the college also teaches Cisco courses). Programming (Java when I was there) was a big and possibly sore point. It was everywhere!

As I said though I started there when it was nothing and left when it really (I believe came into its own).

In the end I spent four years there and enjoyed every moment.

I used to lecture on the evening version of that course, so if there are any specific questions you have, let me know.

In terms of the college itself, it is certainly the best college I have lectured in. The facilities are fairly new, the staff are extremely dedicated and are generally nice people. There is a very positive, "can-do" vibe in the college.

The syllabus is your standard Information Technology type course, nothing out of the ordinary there, and the qualification is your standard Institute of Technology/HETAC award.

I was speaking to my career guidance teacher today, after not getting my 1st choice in DIT I have been offered computer engineering in ITB.

Any info on the IT itself would be appreciated!?

Currently studying this my self. I quite like it and like how it is teached. Java is still the programming language studied, you also do all your networking stuff with cisco too so that is very good.

Social wise it isn't huge but there is a fair few events held throughout the year and some good nights out.

The Lecturer's are very nice and are always willing to help you out if you are ever stuck, also willing to get to know you better on a personal level. The college itself also feels brand new with some nice equiptment.

We were in the same class then.

    Who are you?

My name pretty much speaks for itself tbh.

I am currently studying this course, and in first year, I am finding it very good, the course material is ideal, the ammount of hours a week is atm 21 hours a week, which isn't bad but the timetable for my group is pretty bad.

There where 70 people in this course at the start of the year, you are in this group for the year, but you get broken up into different groups, 4 this year with 17 in each group. 70 Did start but only 35 regularly come in, I believe that's becuase the points are relativly low and when the apply they don't realise the course is still going to be difficult.

We are doing four main classes and one off topic class atm, Computer Systems, Programming, Web Design, Networking and Personal and Proffesional Devolpment . The classes are in two hour blocks.

I must say when I started here I was less than happy as I had my heart set on DIT, but the place has grown on me hughly, the facilities are excellent, the only thing that is lacking somewhat is a social scene, there is no student bar atm, although there is talk of brining one in, and that means to social scene suffers somewwhat, but plenty of effort goes into events here.
