    Hey folks.
I love listening to my mp3 when out running. For one it means I can't hear all the young lads slaggin me off as I run past!!
Thing is though, I'm bored of all my music!!

So what do you listen to that keeps you going? I'm looking for stuff that's not too slow but not absolutely pumping either. I also listen to anything across any genre

So what's on your mp3? Maybe we can get a play list together?

    Do you like classical? :)

Try a soundtrack, Gladiator, Last of the Mohicans and stuff like that.
    300 is ok’ish
The above two are the best imo
The Dark Knight is good but realy suitable for this.

I can’t stand dance music but that’s what most people use.

I find audioslave great listening, especially on tough tempo runs..

I'm a firm believer in cheesey stuff to keep up the mood - currently have Abba on my MP3 player, and have been known to include some awful 80s classics...but also find stuff like Arcade Fire (No Cars Go), Coldplay (Fix You) are good running tunes.

Also find Muse quite good if you're into that sort of thing

I was thinking only recently of posting something about the music I listen to when running.

Linkin Park I must say are excellent to run to. I really enjoy One Republic too, tempo really suits running.

I always find it interest how many songs refer to running and/or races.

One Republic - Im gonna run til you can crawl

Coldplay - Runners, until the race is won

Coldplay - And the hardest part is letting go and not taking part (very apt when injured)

Snowpatrol - (Something about if only the finish line was the start line)

I also have some terrible cheese on my mp3 for running. I don't take it out much though, prefer to listen to what's going on around me and completely zone out.

When mr hm was doing all this fitness/personal trainer exams he needed music with specific numbers of beats per minute. We spent an awful lot of time listening to some terrible music for a couple of weeks!

I quite like the Kitsune compilations - if you are into indie / electro they are the business. Or something like Digitalism, Vitalic, Friendly Fires. Remixes of decent not-typically-fast-paced songs can be good ones too.

But there is always a place for My Sharona / Dancing in the Dark and some Girls Aloud for when I take off my music elitism hat / running shorts :o

Thanks folks. Some some sugestions there!!

I have to say I've listened to some cheese myself lately. Kinda makes you smile when the tiredness starts to bite!!

Anyway thanks for the ideas... I'll definitely be trying some of the soundtracks.

I run with my Nano, which has 8GB of storage space.. So I've a hundred or so albums, which I generally listen to on shuffle.

Quite often I find the music affects my rhythm (subconsciously), so I figured I'd put together a playlist for the marathon, consisting of either faster tempo songs or songs that start slow and build up to a crescendo (for motivation!).. Also avoid all of the down songs (Radiohead, Beth Orton, Elliot Smith, Jeff Buckley, etc..).

Ended up with 12 hours of songs... So even if I end up limping the entire distance, I should be well covered..

also, if ur at all partial to dance music check out tiesto. even start with youtube to get an idea of his stuff. he has excellent remixes of popular songs that would definitely get you going.

tiesto with: tegan & sara - back in ur head
    justin timberlake - love stoned
    snowpatrol - chasing cars

other class tiesto songs for running to: beautiful things
    in the dark

    a bit of a fan here I guess :)

The matrix soundtrack is great to run to or I also like faithless (nearest to dance I can bare!!) and like someone already said muse are great aswell and now that I think of it if you are into heavier stuff then system of a down have a good beat running under most of their tracks which I find good to run to.....

I have a small radio walkman..prefer to listen to talk radio. It keeps my mind focused on the topics discussed and off the physical hardship.

Have fairly wide ranging music on my mp3 player, so get to listen to all sorts when out on my run. Started yesterday's 10miler off with a bit of Chemical Brothers, bit of Kings of Leon and Muse in between, and the Boss, and was delighted to be coming onto the 9th mile listening to Creedence Clearwater's version of I heard it through the Grapevine, all 11mins of it, so I knew i'd be coming home listening to it. :)

Rocky soundtrack when I need to do some tempo work or when I'm flagging. Gladiator soundtrack is good too. Erik Friedlander - some cool Americana road cello music. Lots of jazz (Miles Davis, Pharoah Sanders, Pimp and Soil Sessions) and Rock Kings of Leon, Death, Arcade Fire,
