Depends on the club. Some do though, yeah.

Yes, the existing general play rule was ammended about 7 years ago to allow for this.

Traditionally, general play cutting was used for numerous good scores during winter rules or things like that.

The ammendment came in to emphasise team competitions, fourballs and corporate scrambles - that kinda thing. It was becoming apparent that some players were playing very little singles golf (hence, not getting cut) and winning team events and corporate days (often with the best prizes available to an amateur golfer).

So you need to report any win or high finish, regardless of format. I doubt a h'cap sec would actually look for the cards but if a pattern forms (of winning) the sec is well within his remit to knock a shot off your h'cap.

In truth, many people aren't aware they should be reporting this stuff, or even are aware but purposely don't. In fairness, the rules can only do so much.

It's usually the same ppl that are winnng these team comps and they rarely if ever report back to their club, infact I'd go so far as to say some go out of their way not to report back.
Afaik there is a system in place to keep track of notable finishes in team events and to cut accordingly.
The system works as follows, for every 1st,2nd and 3rd place finish you are awarded points i.e. 3 points for 1st, 2 for 2nd and 1 for 3rd, and when you accumalate 5 points you are cut 1 full shot, now in saying all that I dont know when or how often these are reveiwed, I suppose it depends on your clubs handicapp secretary.

It used to be that you got cut from featuring a couple of times.
Now as far as I know, these scores will be included in an end-of-year review and then action will either be taken or not by the handicap comittee.

It's not true to say that you get cut a full shot as far as I know because there was different levels of action taken depending on your category. After all, not many 2 handicappers are 'minding' their handicap so as to win a gaa classic.
Also, doing well in inter-club competitions can bring about a reduction, depending on what stage you get to etc.... all current information is most likely on www.gui.ie

I wouldn't disagree with cutting for the above but I have to say, I've never, ever heard of anyone being cut for interclub performance - even when they won a national pendant...

I know there is provision for winning a club singles matchplay (not sure about foursome/fourball) but for interclub, given that your a member of a squad and could sit-out some rounds or play with different partners...

I guess like anything, a h'cap sec worth their salt can call an obvious cut that needs to be made 'observation' or 'general play'.

Licksy, do you know any/many cases of people being cut due to interclub matches?

Our club won the Metropolitan Cup a few years ago and each member of the team lost .5. It does happen and comes as a recommendation from the GUI.

The one thing i will add is that Class 1 players do not in 99.99% of the time get cut on general play.I'm off 2 and over the last 3/4 years i'd say i've featured in the prizes for about 8/9 competitions each year and have yet to be cut on GP and our club does seem to have quite a strict view to GP cuts.

Cheers for that. It definitely makes sense - I obv haven't been in a club that wins much ;)

Once you get under 3.4, you are not eligible to get cut on general play.

Having won the Munster Final in the Fred Daly this year, our team after the All Irelands are getting cut at least .3 and .6 if we win it or something like that.

Yeah some our our guys were cut 0.5 I think for winning the provincial towns cup in 06 & again in 07 (like the metropolitan but for leinster outside the pale, 9 handicappers minimum). I know we have a sheet on the notice board about the cuts and I'm sure it's online too.
