The most disturbing part was how quick the Chinese "Nothing to see here" brigade were on the scene.

"The world must not associate such images with China....make it go away"

I was waiting for the vet with the shotgun to walk up, like at the horses.

yeah but in fairness I wouldn't want the world watching if I was rolling around in agony, only giving the guy a bit of privacy!!

That's standard Olympic policy, there's vids on youtube of injuries in weightlifting and the volunteers block the camera view afterwards.

Also, Sky don't repeat injuries in soccer/rugby either, so let's leave the anti-Chinese statements alone :)

Ive watched it a few times and cannot understand how he did that. The bar does seem to be moving about alot on the lift but then he just seems to try and throw it forward. Can any experienced lifters explain what went wrong?

he was probably trying to dump the lift but his elbow went before he could manage it.
I think he's an ex judo guy so could have had prior injuries to his elbow.

Sorry lads tongue in cheek doesn't come across too well in text format. Just a joke in keeping with the little singing girl debacle and the statement saying the pretty miming girl represented a better image for the world to see of China.

The bar also landed full on his back when his elbow went, he managed to push out from it somehow or he coulda crushed himself altogether.

It was awesome to watch. Can't remember the turkish girls name but she was great too. Made me feel pathetic so it did.

That chinese weightlifting girl was cute the way she was so small yet strong and the way she shouted in her little girly voice everytime before lifting the bar. Turkish girl was sexy .

It's a fairly common occurence in weightlifting believe it or not. I've seen it happen a few times in the last year.

When you think about the elbow structure, and how small the overall mass of the tendons and ligaments are holding everything together you might understand why it's so easy to snap an elbow under such a heavy load. Especially at full extenstion.

Here's a few more of those 'omg, you-must-be-in-so-much-pain-right-now' moments from the Olympics.

Warning: Some of the pictures are pretty gross, so not for the faint hearted.
