What wood do you like the body to be made of?? Pick ups?? etc. Anything that you tend to keep going back for and why?

I like an unlaquered neck, usually that means maple. Something about my hands, just can't get on with your typical laquered LP-style neck. Actually feels unpleasant, like nails on a chalkboard :pac:

Actually, even my Strat had too much laquer on the neck, you could see your bloody face in it. Not any more though ;)

I like a guitar to have an alder body with a maple neck through and an ebony fretboard.
I like another guitar to have a mahogany body and mahogany neck with rosewood fretboard.
Then I like another guitar to have an ash body with a maple neck and a maple fretboard.

Moral of the story - I like guitars that sound great and play fantasticly. Don't really care what they're made of or what hardware is on them. Took me a while to cop onto that.

I'm digging diversity right now. I want something different from every new instrument, rather than just multiples of the same thing.

    Clear satin finishes.

I especially dislike sticky neck finishes.

    ...

    eh...
    Let's not go there!

I like a bit of diversity in my guitars too. Though I am far from expert on guitar, either on playing or just general knowledge, but I have been really excited by some unexpected guitars lately. Would love a vintage jazzmaster though.

Bingo! I can't say that I only like this in a guitar...

Each of my instruments are different, different woods, different electronics, different finishes. :)

Favourite neck/fretboard is maple at the moment, gotta love a light satin finish too.

As far as the body is concerned I LOVE mahogany but ash has a nice feel to it too.

Pups I tend to go for P90's, perfect inbetweeness.

^ Makes me want to build a frankenstien with the materials above lol :pac:

For me a good guitar needs to have the following

    - Nice neck profile
    - Half decent pickups
    - Half decent tuners
    - Middle body weight. I don't like guitars that are very heavy or very light.
    - Well setup (including well done fret job)
    - Has to sit well. Some shapes I don't like because of this. V's, explorers, SG's
    - Another big thing for me is fret access. If I can't hit the higher registers then I'm not going to like the guitar.

Actual woods don't bother me that much, and I've gotten on with every finish I've tried. If it plays nicely then generally I'll like it. I'm equally happy with trems and hardtails. If the guitar happens to have 7 strings then it's a bonus though!

Thin necks ~ 42mm at the nut
Generally a Mahogony body or Mahogany back with Maple Cap
    Mahogony or Rock Maple Necks
    Rosewood or Ebony fretboards
    Prefer smaller / lighter bodies
    locking tuners :D
Hardtail (although most of my guitars have trems)

Pickup wise my current favourates both happen to have Kent Armstrongs, SH and HH respectively. I prefer the SH neck tone, but the HH has more flexability (can coil tap the neck on either coil for instance).

Of course I could pick up something tomorrow with none of the above and love it to bits!

    D.

I don't care what it looks like as long as it's got ****-hot action.

What things do you like in a guitar... the person playing it? Great guitars can make bad musicians sound good but only great musicians can make bad guitars sound great, if you catch my drift

The maple cap makes the tone a bit brighter......
    Dimarzio's.....2 of them bad boys......Liking Satch's Fred's....X2N's rock too.
Gunstock, birds eye maple neck (waxed & baked) including fretboard.
You don't know a neck, untill you've played a Music Man Axis.

The locking trem (down only)....nice toy...:D
    Locking nuts too......lazy me....no need to tune...ever....

Then again you could try a PRS Eagle model at €6500

Maple necks, balanced, not too heavy, contoured backs and usually single coil pickups!

Mahog body, mahog neck through, maple cap, Ebony fretboard, wizard 2 neck, Dimarzio drop sonic and a 59 in the neck, 7 strings, piezo pickups.

Havent actually had all these in one guitar before but from all the guitars iv played id imagine that thats what i would want in a guitar if i had the choice.
