Cork vs Galway - Minor Hurling

So how do people think this game will go on Sunday?

TBH I haven't seen much of this Cork minor team but there is some excellent individuals on it, a few with the potential to play senior in a few years. Padriag O'Shea has been excelling in senior hurling for Midleton and is another in a long line of tough but elegant Cork center backs. Seamus O'Farrell is a good grafter in midfield, goes all day and can point from distance. Ciaran Sheehan is highly rated at center forward, and god knows thats the one position were Cork need good prospect.

Unfortunately star forward Luke O'Farrell got a bad injury that he is only just coming back from, but I know replacement Paul Haughney is seen as a bit of child prodigy in midleton and is the main Cork forward Galway need to watch. I'm sure Haughney and O'Shea at least have the potential to be big players for Crok in the future and the performances of full back Rodgers and center forward Sheehan will be interesting considering their positions.

    Anyone know anything about Galway?

Galway are very strong with four of my St. Thomas' club men lining out. David Burke, Bernard Burke, James Regan and Donal Cooney.

David is a brillant hurler, great man to read a game and a fantastic free taker. He's also the captain.

Bernard is lightening quick and on his day there is no stopping him.

James is another exceptionally skilled hurler, I myself would have used him in more of an attacking role.

Donal is a strong full-back who is highly reliable.

Galway only struggled past an average Wexford team but should improve from that considering it was their first serious game. Looking at Kilkenny's comfortable win over a well-fancied Tipp team they have to be hot favourites to win the final whoever comes through between Galway and Cork.

I though Niall Burke got a striaght red against Wexford?

The Cork team is the same as it was agianst Tipp, although Luke O'Farrell is back on the bench.

Not as familiar as I should be with this Galway team. The only player I know really is the goalkeeper, Fergal Flannery. He is from my own club. He made a couple of good saves in the game against Wexford. I assume the two Burkes from St. Thomas' are brothers/cousins of Kenneth Burke.

David is Kenneth's brother, while Bernard is his cousin. David is very similiar even in his running style to Kenneth and they're both built the same. Excellent hurler, certainly a future senior player.

Congrats to Galway. Far more clinical.

Largely Cork lost it on the sidelines, Galway crowded out the middle third, and Cork's running game disapeared with no plan b and leaving our full back line isolated. Sound familar?

Seamus O'Farrell, Welch, O'Shea and Collins all showed well for Cork imo.

Agreed. A great win today, considering that they were not really able to catch the ball in the air. I thought that would prove their downfall, but they overcame that by crowding out the Cork 1/2 forward line.

Cummins in the corner was a revelation today, as he was fairly anonomyous (sp?) in the last match against Wexford.

Galway will have to stop giving away stupid frees like they did today (which kept Cork in the match in the first half). If they can do that, then they have a chance against KK. However, they will still be massive underdogs...

Delighted for Galway, we (wexford) should have actually beaten them in the quarter final but hey thats how it goes,
Hope they go on and win it now

True, but Galway are always at a bit of a disadvantage coming into a 1/4 final cold, and they were likely to improve a fair bit from that first game although I still didn't think they'd get past Cork.

Kilkenny have to be hot favourites for the final judging by theit comfortable victory over Tipp in the other semi, and the ease with which they beat a pretty decent Wexford team aswell. Hopefully Galway can stay with them in the first half and you never know after that.

The conveyor belt rolls on for us. If only we could use it like Kilkenny do.

    Get a decent manager:D

It will take more than a decent manager to stop the rut.
