    hi there

I was given a dvd recorder last week (1 of those plustron ones from dunnes stores) but am having problems getting rte1/net2 tuned into it. The way my system is setup is that i have a sky box for free to air channels and 2 aerials in my attic, 1 for rte1/net2 and the other for tv3/tg4. The problem is that the dvd recorder only has a tuning range from 400 to 800mhz and as far as i know rte1/net2 transmit on vhf below this so i can't tune them in to record them. Is there any way around this so that i can record these 2 channels. New aerial?

    Thanks

A new aerial wont put a vhf tuner on your dvd recorder.

Is it possible to pick up rte and net2 on uhf or are the only transmitted on vhf??

That depends on where you are. What part of the country are you in?

Mullaghanish area (VHF and UHF needed)

use a VCR to receive RTE1,2 for the DVD player?

but if you have a clear path in the direction of Limerick city area you might be able to receive all 4 OK on UHF using a different aerial (UHF group B or Yellow colour code) aimed at the 'Woodcock Hill' transmitter with rods horizontal

They are selling a DVD recorder which is designed only for the UK market, not this country. Its tuner wouldn't work on analogue cable TV either. They should have warned it was UHF only and so unsuitable for use with cable TV and terrestrial in much of this country

However the Dunnes' one is good value to record via SCART from a Sky Digibox, or even for playback only with surround decoder.

These are being dumped at less than 1/2 original price as the original Markets want DTT tuners, not analogue.
