CrossFit Ireland will be hosting boards.ie own amazingemmet for a six hour gymnastics workshop on Saturday, August 23rd at CF Ireland in Tallaght (google map link).

Time 10-5 (one hour lunch break)

    Cost: €40

I know every workshop says this but spaces are limited, so if you want in please book early.

Emmet will cover the basics of tumbling work, handbalancing and some ring work, which will provide athletes a sound foundation for incorporating gymnastic movements into their workouts and coaches the cues and progressions for the basics of gymnastics.

I'm sure Emmet will chime in with any details I've forgotten.

To book please email info [at] crossfit [dot] ie or call/txt 086-8151092

Damn, right on the KO Martial Arts birthday celebration day. I would have been very, very interested in that.

Yeh I am interested but I am in work that day,

    Sounds cool,

For those interested here's a quick over view of the day.

warm up, covering dynamic stretching and mobility work

Basic tumbling, We'll be covering basic tumbling passes and combinations, how to spot, basic joint preperation and conditioning.

Floor based lever work, ie pike and straddle lever, prep for russian lever, elbow planche, one arm elbow planche, basic preperations for learning a full planche. Conditioning for all the above moves

Handbalancing, basic steps for learning a handstand and steps towards learning one arm.

Rings: I'll be covering basic levers, front and back, preperations for iron cross and various transitions from hang to support and various conditioning exercises

Stretching: We'll be covering pnf and ballistic type stretching

As you can see this is a lot of information being crammed into six hours as such I'd like everyone who'll be attending to have a notebook and pen or video camera, as other wise you'll just forget most of the info.

Any questions feel free to post them here.

There's no minimum per say as everything can be worked around and the session is aimed at beginners / non gymnasts. My main aim for the day is to give people techniques they can use in their own training.

Don't suppose there's a planned repeat of this in the future?

I'd love to come along, but I've already committed to go to another seminar that weekend.

I used to do gymnastics (but then I got a little too old), so I'm always interested to see how I can work my skills into my training (even just to keep me fit for MA).

Maybe if this is a success I'll run one in my gym for those who get dizzy when they cross the Liffey.... like me.

This sounds really advanced for beginners/ non gymnasts - I did gym as a hobby for years and wouldn't have been doing any lever work. Are you sure it's not just for super strong non-gymnasts? I don't want to rock up and be the only weak/ out of shape girl there! A handstand is about the extent of my ability these days :o

Levers are difficult for alot of girls to get anyway. Have been training for years (retired for a few years but picked up adult training 2 years ago)... i wouldn't be able to do levers very well at all.

best thing is if you were doing levers to do them in pairs anyway, say trying straddle lever to handstand, start in standing straddle, have a partner behind you, lean into them and use their weight as support and balance to press up

Think we're getting some terminoogy mixed up here, when I say a lever I mean L-sit and straddle L. Also on rings they're not too hard tbh, back lever is more a matter of hand and shoulder positioning my gf can do a straddle one and has only been working on them for a couple of months.

I think people are getting levers mixed with presses.

Trust us guys, this is open to anyone and everyone. When myself and Emmet were sorting out the details for this, we made sure it would work up from absolute beginner. Please don't let the description scare you.

Also to add to this, its a one day workshop no one is expected to be able to do everything right away, these things can take years of practice. All the aims of the workshop are is to introduce you to a new sport, learn some new ideas and techniques to use in your own training and have fun.

I'm the same as you and I'm going to go. I don't think its possible to be more weak or out of shape than I am so you can hang with me in the special corner if you like.

Workshop is now sold out. Promises to be a really great day.

There's usually cancellations for this type of thing, so if anyone wants to get their name down on that list, let me know.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,577 ✭✭✭Colm_OReilly

    TTT for anyone attending tomorrow.

The workshop will run from 10am - 5pm, with a one hour lunch break.

    From Emmet:
I need everyone to be wearing shorts/ tight bottoms and tight tops, also to have a note book and pen as well as there'll be a lot of info getting thrown at people over the day

I just this minute received a txt cancellation so if anyone wants to go, please let me know.

    Thanks,
    Col
