This might sound odd, but am I the only one who thinks shakes taste better when you unscrew the lid and drink it like it's out of a glass??

I tried it today and it was MUCH more bearable (I won't say nice, jsut not as bad!)

I find it generally nicer to drink most beverages out of a glass

Don't like the glug, glug, glug effect from narrow bottle (shaker) necks

Cant recall if it effects the flavour but I'm sure it would make it easier to get down

It's probably easier to just gulp it back that way rather than getting a little dribble out of the spout.

I couldn't do that because I've developed the habit of mindlessly shaking it between drinks (to stop the powder settling to the bottom) so I'd proabably destroy my house. Did it the other day when I'd forgotten to put the cap back on. Got soaked with orange-choc milk. Nice.

What were you having hanley?Maybe its because you can down it quicker?

I use an old cream shaker for my shakes :D so there's a bigger hole to drink out of than most shakers which I find better.

Not sure why, just seem to prefer it.

lol I never even realised there was a little cap thing at the top of my shaker till I read this post :o I have always just unscrewed the whole lid!

Unflavoured whey and some options hot chocolate mix.

It's the exact same shake i've drank every day for the last 6 months, but the taste was totally different. The only thing I changed was drinking straight from the cup and not the lid!

Maybe it has something to do with the plastic lid making the shake taste different as it passes through the hole...haha :/

Maybe you have a cold coming on, affecting your taste buds?

Am I the only one who actually likes the taste of a whey shake?

Granted I do use the sissy flavoured stuff, not being cut from the same hardcore cloth as the unflavoured Mr. Hanley, but I really like the taste of my shakes.

Currently using the ON 100% Gold, have had strawberry, vanilla and double choc and loved them all. Used to have the Nx Big Whey which was fine but after tasting the ON I cant go back to it.

Hmmm that would be a good explanation, but I've had enoguh colds in the last year to know when's coming on. There's a lot of warning signs I get before it hits properly.

    I have another theory....

With the small hole to drink out of your taste buds are getting hit more directly and as a result the taste is amplified, where as drinking it like it's from a glass floods your mouth and you don't get as instant a shock.

    Possible runner??

Smelling it affects the taste for sure.

I think they taste delicious. The thing i hate is the fact that protein shakers always STINK on me after a while, no matter how much i clean them.

i know wat you mean but ive found the perfect solution for that, keep the cap off the shaker when your not using it works wonders!

The mouthpiece of my shaker usually smells of feet unless i get it washed the minute i get home.

i know that drinking beer from a glass rather than a bottle makes it taste better(or you taste 'more')because you're better able to smell it.Afaik this applies to all drinks?

Ever have Dymatize Elite Whey? Nicest tasting whey ive ever had. Recommend the berry blast or the chocolate flavours.

I'll second that. Nicest whey I've had by a country mile. Used to always just throw back my ON shakes but I actually drink Dymatize Elite. Best flavour imo is the Butter Cream Toffee, it's like having a treat after a hard work out :D

I also find adding ice to the shakes adds to the taste for some reason.

Different area's of the tongue will detect different "flavours" better, be is sweet, bitter etc so it may be a reasonable option to think that the more narrow flow of the shaker lid would affect taste.

A more reasonable explantion is that a large degree of "taste" is actually dictated by the nose....the unflavoured way would actually have a pretty mild smell from what i recall....kind of creamy, the options part would have a more powerful smell.

By drinking from the glass over the shaker you are getting the full effect of the smell of the chocolate on the taste of the overall drink i would say.

i always drink out of the cup. i blend it in the cup, so maybe thats why.

i dont understand why you say it makes it more bearable though, shakes dont taste that bad.

actually i think they taste good.

serious mass chocolate flavour is the job. cyclone is absolute balls, it taste like some gone off butterscotch.

dorian yates approved pro mass taste ABSOLUTLY lovley if its banana flavour
metabolic drive from biotest tastes great to and n large squared just taste acceptable.

i drink all my shakes super quick so maybe thats why they taste ok to me.

maybe you should try something else other than nutrion x hanley, and in case your wondering who this is, its your best friend "the bag".

lets argue like the good old days, you always start them.

    Yes, big time.

This is very well known, I remember watching a tv program with people tasting milkshakes and other stuff with their nose blocked and they could not tell the flavour. Beer was mentioned too, people do pour it out for that reason, same with wine.

Of course if you do not like shakes drink it with a straw and hold your nose!

I liquidise mine in a mini blender with ice cubes, it gets freezing cold, I also much prefer it when poured into a glass.
