Haven't bought from them personally, but I was in touch with them a couple of years ago when I was looking for a car. They were good to deal with, and I spoke to a few people at the time who'd bought from them, and they were all pretty positive.

John Hayes has been around in various guises forever, my mom bought a Peugeot 205 from him 1988. I would imagine if he is still around he is doing something right. As ever get an independent check of the car.

I bought my first car off a John Hayes, he was a Peugeot dealer in Blackrock or thereabouts back in 1988. I wonder if it's the same guy?

    That purchase was pretty painless...

edit: hey Stevie, I bought a 205 XS off him that year, too!

I dealt with 2 people, an old chap (John himself, I presume) and a bloke in his mid thirties. Both were spot on.

I dealt with the younger one too and he seemed dead on. The car I was looking at I was a little disappointed in. He told me they get a good amount of stock from franchise dealers who would not sell higher mileage stock themselves. I also got the feeling they get a fair bit of repeat business.

thanks for the reply lads, I'm looking at a 3 year old car with just 12k on the clock and it has never been serviced. Just a tad sceptical :)

That does sound a little odd. I've never owned a car from new, but don't you have to get a car serviced to maintain the warranty?

I can see some old dear skipping the service because she hasn't done the miles...

but why would a dealer have sold this car in the trade to John Hayes? It's not old, it has very low mileage...

I'd be very careful too ...that sounds like a typical old biddies car that was driven to mass and the shops only ...probably screeching for mercy in first / max. second gear.

I know but can you see an old biddy driving an Audi A3 with upgraded alloys?

Maybe someone in the diplomatic field or such like with a vehicle to hand as their own personal transport for when they are over here. Rather than renting, who knows - all you have to do is ask, and see if the explanation makes sense.

It could have been a second car. I was looking at an Audi A2 at the same place, 5 years old with only 30k on the clock. It was absolutely immaculate too.

Having said that, my missus has a 2002 car with about 16k on the clock. She uses to drive about a mile to and from work, spends most of its life negotiating sleeping policemen in 2nd gear. I can't see the engine getting passed 30k before it dies.

Should be able to find out pretty quickly on a test drive. Nice car by the looks of it anyway.

not so unusual - a couple I know both live in Dublin 4 and work in and around Stephen's Green. They both have company cars which get replaced after 3 years. These are then sold on to the garages by the leasing companies. I know of several people who have gotten 3 year old BMW 3 series with less than 10k on the clock for about 10k under the average asking price

there is not many used car garages i would recomend in ireland, but if i had to pick a top five, i'd consider this garage in the top 2.

only sells cars with fsh mainly, especially if they are high end stuff.

I just bought a car off them last week - happy with the deal and the motor. Found them up front and good to deal with.
