Excessive elephants

Hmm. Following yesterday's trip to the zoo, I've ended up with an excessive number of elephant photos (about 100). I want to cut them down to maybe 10 or 20 so that my friends won't beat me to death when I force them to look through all the pics. Problem is, there's about 10 that I can definitely say "delete those". The rest are OK pics (not magic, but OK).

What criteria would you use for picking a small number out of relatively similar pics? The problem I'm having is that I like them all (awww, baby elephants!) so I'm having problems looking at them critically :)

one idea could be to post a link to a flickr or pix account and see which images get the most views/comments!

although that means uploading alot of images

Go through them all giving each one a rating and then sort by rating
and choose the top 10 from there?

Pick out faults with images & drop them as you go.
By faults, I mean the ones that are similar to another, but just not as good, for whatever reason.

    Howdy Missus :D

Were we a happy snapper then yesterday. I know we all took a few shots but over 100 on the effalants alone . Its a good job you have a 12Gb card lol

Ok, my criteria for choosing photo's. They have got to be sharp. Especially on the eyes. If they're not sharp on the subject they're stuck straight into the bin. The only thing that'll stop me doing this is if there is several subjects in shot. If you crop can you get a better shot. It's cheating but it could salvage the shot.

Next is content. Have they got what it make to be a shot that hits you. We all have ok images, but to print it or for me to claim it, it's gotta be good.

If you've got 100 shots that are nice, pick 10 that are really good. Try then and narrow this down further.

The advantage of digital is that we can shoot and try to make each shot count. Not every shot does and as you shoot you can review and see if it makes the grade. When you get them back to the PC you need to be your own worst enemy.

I have a shot from yesterday. It's one of the wolves. Standing on top of a rock looking straight at me as if to say "come any closer and your my lunch". A cracking shot. But it's not. The eyes are soft. I shot it at ISO 400 and it's soft. I keep looking at it asking what can I do to help it, as it's killing me to do the honest thing. I'll give it a few more goes in LR and Fireworks, and if it don't work out then I'll have to bit my lip and hit the button
The shot is now up on my Flickr.

Best of luck and be a bitch or be beaten to death :D
