Convert to euro, add VRT from revenue website, and add 200 for flight and ferry. That one is older than 6 months old as it's on a 57 reg so no VAT is due.

I make it out to be approx €20,000 including VRT? Would that be about right? Seems very cheap compared to a 2008 model here

About €21.5k by my maths. Go for it.

my only concern would be that theres no photos of the actual car for sale, its an archieve photo being used.

maybe email them asking for some actual pics before you book flights etc

    DATE: 09 August 2008 TIME: 17:04

    STATISTICAL CODE: 40386539
    MAKE: HONDA
MODEL: ACCORD 2.2I (From Jan. 2006)
    VERSION: 2.2I SE CTDI / SALOON / MANUAL / DIESEL /
    CO2 EMISSIONS: 145
    MILEAGE: 12800 MILES
DATE OF FIRST REGISTRATION: JANUARY 2008

    OPEN MARKET SELLING PRICE: €27436
    RATE OF TAX: 20%
    VEHICLE REGISTRATION TAX:
    (payable on enquiry date) €5487

Do your own sums after that. I put the car as January. Be sure it is over 6 months since first registration, or you will have to pay VAT as well.

Edit: I make it €21,500 excl. travel costs if you pay asking price. Buy a proper spare wheel, not the spacesaver which is listed.

I've bought 2 cars from Motorpoint, the car will be pristine, you won't need to do an inspection trip. You can get them to ship it to one of their other locations, Newport is very handy with Aer Arann to Cardiff.

    Chauffe, Marcel, chauffe!

So roughly €22k landed for a nearly new car that lists here for €39k? Sounds like a good deal indeed

Can you tell me more about your experience with Motorpoint Stevie.

Did you get a HPI Check? Any chance of haggling down the price? What did you need to bring with you - identification etc.? Did you bring a bank draft?

Any advice on this would be great

It's very straightforward, for around £70 on top of the quoted price they will prep the car, do an HPI check and stick on new plates. It is a huge operation so there will be no monkey business. The car will be spotless.

The prices they quote are usually set, but it's a buyers market there to so there is no harm in trying, a few hundred quid for a sale today is always worth a try.

Paid the £500 deposit by Visa (refundable if you are not happy with the car) and paid the rest on the day by bank draft. All no problem.

One thing, get the number of the site that has the car, NOT the main line as they will have never seen the car. Talk to sale person at the sight in question where he can give you an accurate description of the car.

Find out about the previous owner, and if the car is imported into the UK where it came from. The buy there cars from all over the place.

I hope it goes well, that is a serious saving you will be making.

Just a few questions, since I'm looking at buying from the UK next year myself:

    - What's the story with insurance on the trip home?
    - Do you have to order an Irish plate before going over or do you have a grace period when you bring it back?
    - Is there any way of getting a km-only speedo/odometer fitted? I know some people mention resale value, but I'd be more concerned with just falling into line with the way we do things here!

Just give your insurance company the new reg and you will be insured, send them the new reg number as soon as you have it.

VRT office wants it done in 24 hours, when you VRT they will give you the new Irish reg number

Most UK cars have both KM's and MPH so rarely a problem, if not changing binnicles can be an expensive way to go, it all depends on the make of car. Cars with digital dashes (Scenic) can be changed over at the flick of a switch.
