Just wondering has anyone ever stayed overnight in The Hell Fire Club in Kilakee with a view to carrrying out an investigation to record any paranormal activity??? I'm a bit of a skeptic (but also an open minded one!), but was recently told of a guy (friend of a friend), who apparently had a scary experience up there recently, involving an overnight stay in the house. He says something "rushed at him" and pushed him aside in the house. Would anyone be interested in doing an investigation up there??? I've no experience in this but am open minded and would like to give it a shot if anyone is interested...

The PIGS have done an investigation up there. Late at night earlier this year. There was very little to report and no anomolies. Wouldnt spend the night however, lots of evidence of junkies.

I stayed overnight there about 8 years ago now and it was freaky.
probably cos we all expected something to happen.Nothing in particular happened but it felt like some sort of presence was with you when you were inside the house and when you were outside it felt like you were bieng watched from the house

I live very near to the house and I'd be up there walking the dog most weekends. I agree with you, there is certainly a strong feeling of being watched when you are outside the house. My girlfriend won't go inside the house because she did once and said she felt very uneasy.

Although the PIGs did see an animal down at Killakee that we couldnt tell if it was a cat or a dog .Moved like a cat but was too big to be a cat .

Is there much documented history about the place, I've heard loads of stories but very little fact's.

I used to go up a fair bit as a child and always hated going in the building or been around it, I'm no problems in the forest itself, uneasy would definitely describe how it felt.

Fox ? Millions of them around the area. And a good ole banshee wail out of the vixens when they're in heat as well.

we used to camp there all the time as kids. Make noises, wear glow in the dark stickers and frighten the people who were looking for ghosts :)

The only supernatural experience you're likely to get there nowadays is a "howya bud, spare some change"

Kilakee House - the pub/b&b has supposedly had some strange activity for some time.

Thats interesting actually. A friend of mine went up there a few years ago and he told me that although nothing exciting happened, an animal that was bigger than a dog jumped on the bonnet of the car. It was dark and they werent in the car at the time but they thought it was a strange looking animal.

Funny, had forgotten he told me that until now.

I lived in Firhouse for most of my life and spent many Summers up there and in the woods below (Lord Massey's). I've seen a few things that go unexplained to this day and have had a few experiences.

I'd be happy to head up for the night. I know the area extremely well.

Well the reason I came up with this idea was also due to what I saw a few weeks ago while walking up there one Saturday morning. There were two tent's pitched inside the house upstairs in the room to the left (as you are looking at the house from the outside). They were pretty obvious from the outside, I went up and had a nose, by this stage two young lads had come along on scrambler bikes and had also noticed the two tents pitched upstairs in the house. The doors to the tents or the nylon flaps, whatever you call them, were not shut but were flapping around in the wind. I went upstairs are just peered by head around the wall (it is a public place after all!), and I saw that there was nobody inside either tent, but there was a load of drink inside one of the tents! I thought it was weird, two tents, one full of Bud and not a sinner in sight! I told the two lads on the bikes that one of the tents had a load of gargle in it and they ran up, look the gargle and the tents and legged it! The only reason I could see why someone in that situation would abandon a large amount of alcohol was if they had the sh1te scared out of them at some stage during the night and ran out of the place???

I live near the house now and I like the mysterious feeling that I still get to this day when I go inside the house. I accept that there is a weird feeling inside the house, but I've never actually felt anything inside it that I could say was "paranormal", it just feels like a weird scary old house.

I was hoping a few folks who are into this in a deeper way than I am would be on for taking a wander up some night..I suppose you could say I'm para-curious!

    Excellent shots AI.

Did you know that there was originally an external stairs leading straight down from the large centre "window" at the front?

    Thanks 6th
I didn't know that about the missing staircase

When I was there I can't say I found the place too creepy. There was a constant stream of folk walking up to visit the place which made taking the photographs difficult.

If you go up there at night I'd really watch out for the langers and junkies

I've been going up here for years now, more now than in previous years as I literally live at the bottom of Montpelier Hill now, and I've never seen junkies up there. I've often seen the leftovers of the odd drinking session, but I've never seen any dodgy characters up there. I've heard stories of satanists been seen walking in procession up the hill and black masses being held up there, I also heard that there is an active coven using the house as venue for ritual killings of animals. The closest I've seen to any of these things in all my years of walking up there was about 2 years ago around the time of the winter solstice, I was out walking the mutt just before Christmas and in one of the upstairs rooms, there was a pentagram drawn on the floor and candles in jam jars still lighting. There was rope/clothesline lying around the room and what looked like an upside down cross (it was a cross with a nail at the foot of it instead where you expect to find a nail at the top of it for holding it to a wall).

There is a story of a large black "phantom" cat that was sighted on many occasions in Kilakee house, claimed to be the size of dalmatian and even spoke on occasion, could it be related?. I think I've just solved this particular mystery...next!

That's a good article. I was last in the Killakee House building when it was a restaurant back in the early 90's and the portrait of the black cat as seen by Tom Mc Assey was there hanging above the fireplace. Unknown to most people, there is another set of ruined buildings, (remains of a castle and possibly a farm building or a church), on Montpelier Hill. Say if you walk up to the Hell Fire Club from the car park, from there you have a view of Dublin. If you were to decend the hill from there and walk in the direction of Tallaght, half way down the hill you would come across these ruins. Does anyone know what used to be here or if it was at any time connected to the building at the top of the hill that we call the Hell Fire Club??? You can see the ruins I'm talking about on Google Earth if you are interested...

I was up at the hell fire club about 15 years ago and it was a very misty foggy day, the clouds were very low and you could just about see the house as you were walking towards it. It was very eerie indeed. On this same occasion a beautiful tall perfectly white horse walked by behind the house and into the forest, very strange as you dont normally see many perfectly white horses around. Needless to say I didnt follow it into the forest.

I remember walking to the Hellfire club from Clondalkin years ago when I was just a nipper. I walked everywhere....wouldn't do it these days of course! :)
Anyways...I was only a young boy and didn't know any stories about the place or anything, my brother was in his late teens back then...I was maybe 7 or 8....it's not important really....but what is important is that I didn't know anything about this building or it's history!
I remember going inside the buidling and instantly I felt like my whole body suddenly weighed 3 or 4 times it's usual rate...I couldn't run around the place!
I walked into one of the rooms and stood in wonder at why it was pitch balck in this room despite it having 2 windows and it was daylight out...the light didn't get past maybe a foot into the room from the wondows.
I thought nothing of it back then....whenever I think about it these days it always gives me goosebumps!

All sorts of creepy things have happened in my family over the years mind you...I should probably document them in this forum huh? :)

I wouldn't stay up there to be honest nothing to do with ghosts, just to do with all the junkies who use the place them selves over night!

I walk up there a few evenings a week and it is very rare I see any scum around the place. It is the scariest place at night though or when it is getting dark, the house seems to take on a personality of its own, but I think that's just the legends and rumours of what went on years ago up there playing on my mind!

I was walking up here tonight and it was dark before I got back down the hill and into the car with the auld mutt!

Anyway, I got into my car and was driving slowly past the Killakee House building just below the car park when there before me is what looks like a large black cat in the middle of the road looking at me!!!

Before you all get excited, upon closer examination, the large "black cat", turned out to be a fairly lanky short haired lurcher type dog with a thick black coat!

Obviously someone locally owns this dog, it genuinely does look like an overgrown cat, as lurchers have a similar type bone architecture to a hare, which gives them speed, especically around their hind legs. I'm going to go back up over the next few nights and see if I can get a pic of this dog/cat!

I have to say that the hairs on the back of my neck stood up when I saw it standing on the road, only I had a wolfhound/lurcher cross in the back of the car going banana's, I had to have another look, it was definetely a lurcher type dog but to someone who isn't used to lurchers, it would actually look like a cat or a panther type animal...

    Pics to follow....
