Phone from US

I'm thinking of bringing in a HTC TyTN II from US. What's the story on buying a phone from US - will it work here no problem if unlocked, and if it's something that is only sold on a plan - like an ifone, do you have to enter into a contract and pay the $49.99 or whatever for the next 12 months?

Has anyone got experience of buying a pay monthly phone in US just to use in Ireland?

If you buy a phone on billpay in the US (or anywhere) you need various proofs of ID/address etc. Chances are you don't have suitable ones for the US so you'd fail. Also, taking out a billpay contract and pulling a runner isn't nice, so let's not talk about it. And you could in theory take out a contract and pay the whole 12/18/24 months off but it's generally cheaper to buy the phone SIM free.

Buy the phone SIM free from the likes of www.expansys.ie (sorry I keep suggesting them, have a look round the forum for others .. they're just ones I use and have used a few times with no issues).

as random said you'd need ID's but I read in a T Mobile leaflet last month which I picked up in Florida that a contract can be cancelled but you pay $175 which isnt bad if you buy a decent phone:) I'm not sure about an AT&T/ Sprint or any other carrier though so its something you should look into before buying, hope this helps in a way
