What's the verdict on (dark) brown shoes and black pants for work? Both are from Zara's autumn line up (mens).

I know I've seen people pull it off, I'm just looking for some reassurance :)

Not as wrong as white socks with black pants and black shoes but wrong none the less - unless you get a particularly dark shade of brown in a texture of some kind....proceed with caution!! :D

There is nothing wrong with the combination!

nah, don't do it. Brown shoes with jeans but NOT with black trousers

Depends on how dark the shoes and trousers are. A softer black with dark brown shoes will work. Get a belt to match the shoes if you really what to big dog it.

but who is going to see your pants anyway, is it not more important what colour your trousers are?

Do not wear brown shoes with black trousers. Surely you can pick up a pair of black shoes. I mean come on, presuming you have a job and aren't a hermet, one night our not gone on would pay for the shoes.

    It will look terrible.

Sounds a bit risky, but I guess some guys might be able to pull off that look. Personally I wouldn't do it (consciously anyway!).

It depends a lot on texture - post pics of your trousers and shoes and we'll tell you if it would work!

I have a gorgeous black and brown skirt which I wear with black boots. It can be done but who cares what anyone else says anyway?

+1, I have a dress with brown and black in it. I think a lot of the old fashion mantras like never wear green and blue together or pink and red are being turned on their head now. Saw a pic of Jamie Winstone wearing pink and red together and she was able to pull it off.

To the OP, if the shoes are a dark, rich brown, go for it. Or what about a burgandy shoe? I think burgandy and black works really well together.

I don't think the OP is saying that he can't afford black shoes, he is saying that he wants something less BORING than black with black!

    OP - Go for it!

Not a fan of black and brown together, especially dark brown.

Good advice, make sure the belt is as close to the shoe as possible if you're going to do thos look.

get a belt the exact same shade as the shoes and you, my friend, are laughing. just don't fuck it up with a ridiculous shirt.

I was going to say NOOOOOOOOO. But this idea is interesting, I'd have to see it though. And yes, pick your shirt carefully.

I've replied to a post on this before! It looks good, brown shoes with black, so long as the shoes have personality! Long narrow brown Italian leathers look fabulous with black trousers. The important thing is the eye should be drawn first to the shoes, not the clothes and then the shoes.
