I often thought about having seperate controls over elements of a song but as the person writing/producing the song its a depressing thought. All your hard mixing for nothing in the end.

I'd agree with Dave. Surely the ability to do that is a bit gimmicky? The consumer/listener shouldn't be concerned with mixing like that. Besides, I can see record companies and studios being reluctant to use such a format as it would give people the ability to reverse engineer tracks, rip them off more easily etc.

I'd like to see a new format that focuses on lossless encoding, high compression ratios, comprehensive tagging, open standards and universal availability/compatibility.

good point cornbb, remixes without cosent would be a problem(i.e isolating a vocal track without going to the source for permission)

I agree with ye both, it would be great to isolate instruments just to hear them raw but I can't see it being good for music! Damaging if anything.

I remember years ago the 'bear naked ladies' release an album with second CD including all the group mixes and a copy of cubase basic (or something like that) so you could mix your own version of it. If it had increased sales then I think everyone would be doing it by now.
