If you could win an Olympic Gold, what would it be?

For me, I think it would have to be Decathlon! Was looking forward to supporting Dean Macey again this year, but he had to retire. Here are a typical set of results he had in 2001:

    100m: 10.72s
    110mH: 14.34s
    Long Jump: 7.59m
    Discus: 46.96m
    Shot: 15.41m
    Pole Vault: 4.70m
    High Jump: 2.15m
    Javelin: 54.38m
    400m: 46.21s
    1500m: 4:28.9s

Imagine being able to perform like that in so many disciplines..!!

So, if you could win any Gold, what event would you pick?

Yeah, the decathlon's cool, but other than that It would have to be Rhythmic Gymnastics the hammer.

10,000m - even though I'm built more like a hammer thrower!

Decathlon would be pretty nice alright, but I would have to say 10,000m too.

Has to the 100m or 1500m. The 100 with a sluggish start and power through in the last 20m and the 1500 in a Fermin Cacho-style '92 win with a burst from the pack when nobody expects it.

    The Olympic marathon.

There must be no better feeling entering the stadium well in the lead and savoring the noise of the crowd.

We could have a world record in this years Decathlon, if Bryan Clay can get near his best on most of his events he will be close.

Though every time I think of the decathlon I am reminded of Ovetts quote

"Nine mickey-mouse events, and a very slow 1500m"

Though that might of just been said to annoy Daley Thompson

Would have to be my old events the 800m or 1500. Some classics races down through the years especially Coe/Ovett in '80 and Coe/Cram '84.

    100m -

There is an Olympic Gold medal and then there is the Men's 100m Gold medal. It has always been the most watched event at the Olympics...

Don't really care, any of them would do really but the water motorsports looks to have taken a little less physical effort than the marathon. ;)

3000m Steeplechase. Don't know what it is about this race, but always think it is one of the more exciting events.

I'd take the 400m & 800m double - its been my aim since Juantorena did it in Montreal.

    100m sprint.
    200m sprint.
    Boxing.
    Football.
    Sailing.

Probaby either 100m sprint or Sailing.

I would think of football as one of the worst sports to win an Olympic medal in. Sure it's still an Olympic medal, but you'd rather win a World Cup medal or European Championships medal, and there's a lot of people whould would rather win a Champions League/UEFA Cup/Domestic League medal over it.

Boxing would be my pick, any weight class would keep me happy.

As for a track and field event I suppose the 100m as it is the marquee event of any track and field competition.

Man, I would love to win a feckin race!!!! Like someone else said, a sprint finish at the end - out of nowhere. Even if it was 10 mins of record pace!!!

I see some weiners are calling for computer games to be added to the events... ugh.

    High jump.

I persuade the officials to set the opening height at 1.20m, which I clear. My rivals mock this and the bar is re-set to 2m. They all have a bad day and no-height.

The 70,000 crowd stay behind to watch as I have three shots at a new world record of 2.47m. I don't knock the bar off, but the officials harshly judge that I jumped underneath it.

Javier Sotomayor presents my gold medal, I wake up...

The 100m mens would be an obvious one but my favourite race is the 400m hurdles. It's definately the best mix of pure speed with amazing endurance, and also the strong will of mind to know when to make the break. It's even better than the 800m, I think.

In Athletics, it'd be the 1,500m for me.

The 800, I'd be very happy winning any Olympic medal in anything, but the 800 is something special for me

yous may find this weird but for me it would have to be the 4x400m, i just think there would be no greater satisfaction than taking your team home in first place on the final leg

... in exactly the same manner as Dave Wottle's win in the Munich Olympics.

(It's on YouTube for anyone who hasn't seen it)

I love relay events! Every year in secondary school did the 4X100 and was lucky enough to be on the winning team every year too! One of my happy memories! would be cool alright...
