    Will you please calm down?

Your attitude here is going to get you nowhere. You've had dealings with one moderator here and now suddenly we're all incompetent dopes?

I suggest you familiarise yourself with boards and how it works before you go jumping on the moderators here. Talking down to someone is never a good idea and that is exactly what you were doing both in that thread and again here.

It's unacceptable in any forum to respond to a moderator in thread. If you have a problem with a warning they've issued you with in thread then you pm them. I can guarantee you if you'd pmed Doom after his "calm down" warning and explained that the post wasn't meant be seem aggressive you wouldn't be banned. Instead you took your condescending attitude and went off on several rants in the thread. You were warned more than once.

Once again, out of thanks, and you are exactly right.

Ditto for you. The logical thing to do would be not respond in the first place. You chose instead to get your back up and start arguing where it doesn't belong. The ban was a logical result.

Do you not realise the irony in calling arguing illogical when the main reason for "Logic" is to use in arguments?

You are being completely anti-critical thinking. Critical thinking, logic, is all about asking questions and challenging authority. It is not improper to openly challenge a decision. Other people are free to step around it, and the mods are free to say take it to PM or another forum(better, public). However, the mod in question here banned me before saying that.
    Now who's being condescending?

It doesn't work when doubly reversed.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 473 ✭✭corkstudent

Takola, sorry, but none of the mods here seem to understand logic, or how other forums work, and I'm meant to think they're competent?

Please give me reason to believe they're not dopes. I don't think you understand how grave not being able to comperehend rational argument is.

I simply will not respect someone who appeals to force before reason. And that is what most mods here are doing.

It is NOT globally unacceptable to respond to a moderator in a thread. Why does a mod get to post in the thread? Why couldn't the mod just PM, which would not have caused the aggression in the first place?

Your whole system is out of whack. I can tell from the defenses you raise. That's how I know. If we could have a logical argument on the merit's of Board's extreme authoritarianism that'd be great, but none of your fellow mods understand logic.

I know I'm "looking bad" to other people here. But the problem is that I'm looking bad to people who probably never heard the phrase "fallacious reasoning" until they had a "troublesome" banned member banned into a corner. Again, style over substance. If I can't appeal with reason, at all, then it's sending the wrong message appealing with style.

Why is SDoom's modding not up for discussion, exactly? Why should he be beyond reason, completely infallible?

His modding is not up for discussion because a mod or admin has not called it into question. If you want to attack his modding thats your business but don't expect much support. You think that was an unfair banning, fair enough you're entitled to argue that point, but don't bring it down to an attack on SDoom.

  • Registered Users Posts: 8,011 ✭✭✭cHaTbOx

SDoom is one of the fairest mods on this site and his decisions are RIGHT and to challenge a mods decision is stupid. If you wanted to start up a thread on a topic you should have done so.But you are wrong accept the ban and unless you change your attidude don't come into that forum

Can somebody please explain to me how the OP was taking the thread off topic with his first post?

The problem I had with the first one is that it seemed to me to be aggressive in tone (from this thread, seems I was right). The bad language was not used for humour. It seemed to me like a nasty thread.

Of course if the OP had pmed me then and said something I'd be happy as Larry.

The RESPONSES were taking the thread off topic.

That's ok though, you don't have to respect us. We'll settle for simple obedience and it will all be good! :pac:

Bottom Line, SDoom's modding is not up for discussion, your ban is. You're not exactly endearing yourself to the community either.
    I think he's great.

I love been talked down to by some child who has done a module of philosophy and then knows it all....genius.

point 1- this isnt another forum, its Boards

point 2- if thats how you feel, you can go back to another forum, or i can simply ban you permanently the next time you start crap on the nocturnal forum.

    1. Fascination with goths.
    2. Poorly-made and irrelevant references to logical fallacies.
    3. Explanation of motives behind disagreements as "ego-tripping".
    4. Compulsion to refer to mods as "staff".
You are Rozie, and I claim my five pounds.

Well for starters, he was by no means describing the fashions of either emo or goth! Emos in baggy pants?! Goth's being punk but quite stylish?? I think not! :pac:

You're missing a point here. This is boards.ie - not any other forum. The way other forums operate does not in any way affect the way boards.ie is run, should be run, or how its moderators and/or admins act. This is a private site, there is no free speech, and the rules are set down by boards.ie/ its admins. You agreed to this when you registered.

    Logical?

You may have your rules, but no rules should be beyond reason.
The rules are there to ensure the thread stays on track. If you wanted to discuss goth music, do so in the music forum. But noooooo, you thought you could derail a thread...
I would be more interested in having his moderator removed than having my ban revoked.
Removed, why? For doing what he was given modship for? To ban those who derailed threads?
Boards.ie is quickly gaining a negative reptuation for instances like this.
Not to worry. Banning people who derail threads will bring back those who wish to discuss topics, as those who derailed them will no longer be there.
There is no need for a moderator like this
So, you think that all threads everywhere should be derailed?

  • Registered Users Posts: 37,296 ✭✭✭✭the_syco

Another logical fallacy, appeal to riducle.

Why are you a mod? I suppose now you're going to make fun of the fact that I'm actually using logic in an argument? If you were a competent mod, I shouldn't even have to name the concepts.
Original posts don't exist any more, nor do Doom's responses as far as I can see.

But the thread was basically a slydice thread for emo/goth chicks i.e. anyone dressed in black etc. and is ironic. corkstudent posted completely off topic obviously. Case closed, good work Doom.

Good stuff cork student, your like elija wood out of the oxford murders. The rules and axioms of validity.

Well cork student your clearly right. Just you forgot that under the rules of logic and axioms of quality that would mean that if both premises are negative there is no conclusion.

I agree your posts were on topic, and were apart from the negative premises quite valid and were not off topic. The Topic was Emo/Goth girls-oddly attractive a very general statement that could relate to anything including pyschology.

To moderate like that in the nocturnal on such a topic is farcical. They are stand up clowns in my opinion, corkstudents posts were readable and very much on topic, not that the topic could not have gone anywhere.

    Title: Emo/Goth girls-oddly attractive
Thread starters question he shares : I am finding something attractive why?

    One Answer:
Here is one direction: The reason we feel attracted to some or something.
Dr. Hans Breiter, director of the Motivation and Emotion Neuroscience Collaboration centre put this intellectual construct of love directly onto the same axis as homeostatic rewards such as food, warmth, craving for drugs......

So cork student was very much on topic and to be honest it was such huge topic that inolved so many sciences of thought all the way up to artistic tastes etc...

    EDIT:

It was a semi serious thread and it was the mod that tried to make it into a "fun thread " what ever that is, with this rubbush and then started the emo versus goth. So MOD if you want to change a thread into a fun thread open a new one.

    Sdoom:
Also they have interesting things to talk about, besides, "loike, where I saw these awesome new A n F tops, like, only for 2,000 europs, like"

Well there was anti goth stereotyping going on, I thought I'd strike one back for the goth girl

OP: Whats with all the weird logic ****e to prove a point? Your making yourself out to be silly and making your case weak.

Its then made even weaker because you cant form a proper debate without bashing the mod in question.

At the end of the day OP, you had been asked to stop dragging it of topic. You continued to do so, and got more warnings, but kept pushing it. You pushed the mod to far and he had every right to issue a ban. You should have listened, and sent the mod a PM with your question or issues with how the situation in topic was folding out.

You could have easily prevented the ban but you decided to be put on the tough man image and push your weight around ignoring what you were being asked to do and being ignorant and rude. Your education in logic has failed you there my friend.

    No Serious Business
-This is a fun forum. If theres a serious topic, make a new thread, don't derail a fun thread, and do not start any E-Drama.
(to be clear, this doesnt mean serious conversations are not allowed.
im not trying to stop serious chat, just serious chat in fun threads. making a new serious thread is cool.)

taken from the charter. enough said tbh.

I'm half tempted to try and derail this thread, completely ignoring the OP's issues, start a discussion that has no place in this thread, and see how the OP feels about that.

    So, Pacino or DeNiro?

All this new found professionalism in Feedback seems somewhat forced.

If ever a thread was crying out for chucklepussies, this is that thread, and the complainant is that unhappy OP.

Whatever validity he may have had before throwing his toys out of the pram has been lost under a sea of textual diarrhoea .

well, pacino has that kinda fun but evil thing going on, Deniro, hes kinda more i could snap at any minute...
    tough call.

    Chiaki Kuriyama or Aki Maeda?

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,138 ✭✭✭takola

    De Niro definitely!

But I'm not going to give any reasons for my choice because I don't feel like it.

Seriously? It's all about the acting for me, and in my opinion, DeNiro had the better body of work, from Taxi Driver to Raging Bull, Ronin, Once Upon A Time In America, The Deer Hunter, Casino, Goodfellas. Pacino's been in some terrific films himself, no doubt about it, but I feel DeNiro has done more noteworthy pieces.

Chiaki Kuriyama, easily. It's odd, but I find the fact that she has a rather big nose is quite attractive. I don't know why. Nom nom nom.
