Hallo there ,looking for some advice on getting a Multi region dvd player with hdmi ,that would come close to ps3 dvd upscaling.

I've got a panny plasma ,so it's a bit more forgiving with lower resolutions.
Is it possible to get a player cheaply ,I don't want to keep using the PS3 all the time for DVD's.

    Cheers.

Hard to go wrong with the Phillips DVP5980, at only €69 or so. HDMI 1.1 support and of course upscaling, results are impressive on my 40" LCD.

    hi there,

where can we find this Philips DVP5980 in Dublin for €69?

i was looking at Denon DVD-1740 and Samsung HD870 (no 1080p upscaling) which are more expensive. the advantage of Philips over the other two is that it has a USB input. Obviously cheaper.

I either bought mine in the Philips shop on Dame St. - or from Pixmania, I don't remember which.

with a panasonic plasma, go for a panny dvd player. dvd-s511 at €109 or then the better dvd-s54 at €149. both great players.

i have a panny plasma with a PS3. great for blu rays but a bit lacking on the dvd upscaling so i got a pioneer dvd player and its the business

    adam,

i have a panny plasma too. how's the pioneer DV-400 compared to panny s54? it's 50 euros extra but doesn't seem to be getting much review on the net. though i wish the s54 has a USB thing too.

picture-wise the difference isnt that noticeable... the reason i bought the pioneer was because of the usb functionality of it.
