While it is getting some air time, we all know people on cholesterol lowering drugs so no harm to give it an airing anyway.

Like most elderly people, my parents and parents in law are on a raft of stuff and they dont know/cant remember what each is for.
No harm to keep an eye

I'd be pretty cautious about drawing any significant conclusions from a single case. And even more so about drawing conclusions from "science" as presented by RTE or any mainstream media source.

This is not the first documented case of a possible interaction - there are enough there to be suspicious. No 'significant conclusions' have been drawn yet but it is important to investigate any potentially serious side effects of any medication.

rhabdomyolysis is a known rare complication of statin therapy - i didn't know there was a drug interaction with fucidic acid before though - so thanks for informing us.

fucidic acid is an uncommonly used drug for treating infections as bugs can get resistant to it quickly and there are many other agents available if the patient is not penicillin allergic.

Its something that doctors should have in their mind - but i would not call it a huge cause of concern.
