Urban myth, DO NOT do this, you will wreck it. Modern dartboards have a reasonably long life as long as you do the usual things (rotate regularly and don't leave darts in it).

Old dartboard (MADE OF WOOD) would be soaked to swell the holes made from the darts hitting the boards. This would improve the life of the old boards.

A modern board would be desteroyed from soaking it in water.

I would let your father know (respectfully) that it is 2008.

Anyway I'm gonna get an Unicorn Eclipse Pro, it seems the best out there. It's staple free and the wires are slimmer. Can anybody tell me if there is a better board out there? What ever one I get I don't think I'll soaking it unless i hear a good comment about this method.

The Winmau Blade III has the best sisal and the Unicorn EP has the best wiring, its a personal choice. I have an Eclipse but most league teams use Winmau.

try and get the eclipse not the eclipse pro.they're a better board.the spider on the pros come out very easy.sometimes you get a smell off the pros like diesel which will stink the room out.rotate them regularly and it'll last a long time.the old wooden boards used to be left overnight in water then taken out to be played on.

If i get the normal eclipse would I get a load of bounce outs because of the staples and the thicker wires. Do you get much bounce outs on yours? I also like the look of them Guinness boards but I don't think you can buy them on their own, you have to buy the cabinet and all that rubbish. I'l buy one tomorrow hopefully after a few more comments. Is it a bad smell of the pro boards.

I like the look of the blade III. I have a Unicorn surround and a winmau board up at the moment but I was thinking of getting a board to match my Unicorn surround. Might just get the Blade III after hearing the Pro smells out the room.

Quote:The Nodor Champions Choice practice dartboard features double and triple rings that are half the width of a regular board. Designed to give you the extra edge you're looking for when practicing for tournament play. After throwing on it, you'll be surprised how big the regular doubles and triples will seem during tournament play. An excellent quality board

Just looked this up, the trebles and the doubles are tiny. Suppose this could improve a great deal. Do not think You could buy this in a shop. Saw it on a site for $60

Hi ratinakeg thanks for that, im 99.9% sure they sell these champion choice boards in brenfers on caple street for 50-55euros

I have a Unicorn Eclipse pro board and I love it! I think you need to have a board without staples because the staples take up so much of the treble bed it's unreal. The wires o the Eclipse Pro are very skinny was well so you rarely get bounce outs off the wire. I dont agree with the smell, I have had my board in my room for ages and I have never got a bad smell off it. There might be a little bit off a new board but its hardly noticeable and disappears very quickly.

I have been looking for a practice board myself. Last time I was i Brenfers they didn't have one but in fairness the lad said that he would be happy to order one in for me. I just didnt have the patience to wait for it at the time but I might go back in and order one soon!

the wiring on the eclipse is the same as the pro,no staples at all.I have never had any bounce-outs on the board.the only time the dart hits the floor is when i hit a dart already in the board.personally i think its a better board than the blade III.
I've got an eclipse training board aswell.dont use it as much now as i used to use it,the doubles and trebles are tiny.if you use it for a while then go back to an normal board the trebles and doubles look huge compared to it.I got mine in elverys bray for 40 euros about a year or so ago.if your near to dun laoghaire go to the bike shop on patrick st,they have a few dart brochures you can order from if they dont have what you want in store, still be cheaper than brenfers.

I said I was going to buy a board today judging on your comments but I snook down yesterday to Elvery's Bray and bought an Eclipse Pro. Got home, took it out of the box and the smell was terrible. Anyway left the windows open over night and the smell seems to be gone.I also hit a 19 darter (my best so far) last night. The trebles are huge compared to my old board (winmau diamond). Really impressed by my new purchase.:D

I just got home from Argos after picking up a new Winmau Blade III. It is really a huge step up from the Unicorn Striker. Even the sound is much nicer when you hit the board.

We'll see how it holds up, but I am very happy so far.

I still use my dartboard from LIDL, it is a staple free board and looks 100% like the blade 3 without the branding. Have had it two years now and it is still perfect even after many hours of throwing.
