hey guys im getting a dell studio 15 laptop , forgive my ignorance but im not familiar with how to pick my processor, im wondering if it worth paying €100 extra to go from a
    Intel® Core™ 2 Duo Processor T5750 (2.0 GHz, 667 MHz FSB, 2 MB L2 Cache)
    to a
    Intel® Core™ 2 Duo Processor T8100 (2.1 GHz, 800 MHz FSB, 3 MB L2 Cache,)
, i will be using the laptop mainly for poker, music and movies and also a bit of college work, Cheers:D:D:D

    I personally wouldn't bother.

Why is that?? I know the main thing is the GHz, i believe 2.0GHz would be ok, But i a dont know the crack with T8100 ?? what does this mean?

Dont know if it makes any difference but i wll be hooking the laptop up to HDMI to my LCD for Blu Ray Machine!!

The T8100 is slightly more poweful, but only by a small amount.

Its also based on the Penryn architecture (45nm vs 65nm) so will have appreciable improvements in heat and power consumption. And improvements in heat usually have an extra knock-on effect on power consumption anyway. (ie better battery life)

€100 is a lot of money in the scheme of that particular laptop; for your uses I would say just stick with the T5750.

will the laptop still run very fast, because`im the type who has loads of applications going at once, eg music while surfing and burning a cd ???????????

also im getting a 9 cell battery free so the battery consumption doesnt bother me, just hope it doesnt stick out the back.

I don't believe you will notice the difference between the two processors performing the tasks you have outlined.

So yes, it should be pretty fast, but I couldn't justify €100 extra for what would be a marginal improvement in speed/responsiveness.

Alright lads , thanks a million , saved me €100 them, and i didnt think it was worth €50 upgrading from 3GB ram to 4GB and also €40extra for 320GB so i stuck with 250GB , Thanks Again Lads :):)

I have the T9300 with 6Mb of Cache in mine...

Friend of mine has opretty much the same configuration... just with a T8100 and 3Mb of cache..

It does make a noticeable difference if you have to multitask. More Cache is always better (Which is why Intel charges much more for it, since it requires more of the production process to go right) Especially with Dual Core, because it speeds up data swapping between processor cores. It doesnt have to go through the Northbridhge and RAM... or whatever.

(I am in Nevilles Pub in Fethard on Wifi ATM, and not to sobor, so bear with me)

Also, theres the power dissapation and efficiency of the 45 nm architecture. You'd really be best going for the 8100 man... it'd be noticeably better.

I'm with Tom and vodoo here. The T8100 is a great processor but for your needs the T5750 is more than enough.
