netbook keyboard comparisons

    Hi there,

I've been reading through the various netbook threads here and just wondered if anyone had any experience with using the keyboard for long amounts of time on them...?

The model that jumps out at me most is the asus 901...but I'm a bit concerned about the keyboard.

I would be doing some fairly heavy duty typing on it, at least 3 - 4 hours per day, so I would want something that I would be comfortable with.

Ive also looked at the advent 4211, but the battery life is offputting.

The Asus 1000(h) have bigger keyboards, but add on weight & price.
and the 904 seems like a drop in processing, plus an add on in weight!

I think maybe hooking up an external keyboard to the 901 when Im in the house (this will be replacing my current laptop as the main computer), and using the minikeys in college / travel....

    Anyone else tried this out?

Alternatively, are there any other upcoming models that I should look at, as I dont need to buy for another month?

    Thanks :)

If you're going to be doing that much typing I'd get something a little bigger than the 901. The keyboard is usuable but I wouldn't want to be doing a lot on it. A USB keyboard would do the trick when you're at home if you don't plan on doing a lot of typing when away from home.

The HP Pavillions on the market right now have very comfortable keyboards on them. I do most of my posting from it.

Cheers for that...yeah I think after sleeping on it the 1000 would be more sensible, and worth the tradeoff in size and weight.

I'll hold off til september and then either pick up a cheaper 1000 or else see if the 6 cell ever emerges for the 4211.

@ Overheal the Pavilions do look good, but I think sizewise its getting too big - cheers for the tip though :)

Another sub-notebook being thrown into the ring is going to be from Lenovo:

Dubbed the IdeaPad S10, Lenovo's new subnotebook will be powered by a 1.6GHz Intel Atom chipset and come in two configurations. The lower-end model, priced at $399, will include 512MB of RAM and an 80GB hard drive. The higher-end model, priced at $450, will include 1GB of RAM and a 160GB hard drive.

They're calling it the ideapad? Could they not have come up with a less shít name for it.

It's only a name. Who cares really as long as the product is good. Looks nice anyway.

Got myself into a real " I want a netbook" frame of mind. Can't make up my mind what to get. Looks like it'll be the Advent 4211. Will probably sell that and upgrade when the Lenovo and Dell offerings come out. If they are better of course.
