Print emergency

Usually when I am doing large prints - I mean the 20x30inch large ones - I order them in from Photobox. I am slightly tied for time and their damn website isn't responding to me to see if they do an express delivery option.

Does anyone know anyone in Dublin that does this size print that doesn't cost four generations worth of children. My experience with HN in this respect has been less than stellar as I recall a charge of 80E for an A1 print at some stage. I have something like 6 prints to come out 30 inches wide and additionally about 16 A3. I may be able to combine the 30inches onto single sheets as we are talking panoramas for the most part. AFAIK Stephen is on holidays at the moment and I need them back ASAP. I mean, early next week at the latest as they will have to be in frames by 16th August and the frames are being built specially for the prints. I'm prepared to traipse into town for them.

Okay. PB can do a guaranteed next day delivery. I will call them tomorrow to see how much that's going to cost. I'm uploading at the moment so that the order can be done ASAP. I'm going to Spain tomorrow which is hugely complicating this thing.

Keith, do you know when Stephen is back? I thought he was off for the first two weeks in August because to be honest I would have been considering him for this on the grounds that he's here and if there are problems with the prints they can be rectified quickly.

ricky - thanks for the comment. Please don't take this the wrong way but I have never had anything printed by snapfish before and my past experience with HP printing stuff for me (as opposed to me printing on a HP printer of my own) has not been great. These need to be top notch. Foto.com have done large format prints for me before and they were very good, but they took three weeks to get delivered. I do not have the luxury of waiting on this occasion.

Yes but the main problem is the 30inch wide shots. I flatly refuse to have HN do them and in that case if I'm going to pay PB for express delivery, they can do the A3s as well. They've done them well in the past for me.

I'll call PB first thing in the morning. Tomorrow is a messy day really I may need to do the order from an internet cafe in Bilbao tomorrow afternoon.

bah...if I wasn't going to Spain it wouldn't matter. I wouldn't be under this pressure.

thanks for all the help anyway.

Rory, can they do them while you wait do you know?

Their website doesn't say whether they can or not...

No idea but their website does talk about a "next day nationwide delivery" (with t&c)

If it is something that can be emailed to them by you for printing, I can collect it for you if you wish if it helps as I could walk down on my lunch break (Quality of their printing is at your own risk as I will just collect it and not make judgment on the quality!)

When are you back from Spain ?

I've had stuff done while I wait in Reads, but not those sizes.

We had some colour printing and binding (documents) done by them for work at one stage when we were in a major rush, and they even sent them over by courier to us that day (we paid the courier), and just paid by CC over the phone. Give them a call first thing in the morning and check?

I'm back on sat evening some time.

I'll call them both in the morning. If they can be done while I wait, I'll take a half day on Monday to go into Reads and do them.

Alternatively, if you're willing to do it, Reads will accept them by email - which saves you having to take a full half day.

My screen is overbright. If something needs to be reprinted because it's much darker than my screen, I want to speed things up.

    Anyway...

thanks a million for all the help.

I know the folks behind http://www.printing.ie have the means to print this kinda stuff. It's not something they do normally though, so you would need to give them a ring. They have a wide format printer inhouse, so they can print whatever size you want really.

Not trying to hijack the thread but don't want to start another thread, was just wondering if someone could answer a very basic question.

Have no idea how this photography stuff works. I'm looking to get a normal *.gif/jpg image saved to a computer blown up into a full size print. I assume that this is possible? What style/size do people recommend.

I saw from the reads website mentioned earlier that they have A0 Photographic Quality €48.40 per copy under their Large Format Printing section.

Is this what I should be looking for?

    Cheers

Generally, if it's a jpeg from the web that you have downloaded it will look like crap blown up. You want something with very high resolution (This is expressed in DPI (Dots per inch) in the print industry. A general rule of thumb is the larger the file size, the larger the print size that will look ok.

A0 is very very large. (1189mm x 841mm). Try increasing the image to that size in photoshop, zoom in to 100% and see how pixelated (Bitty, angles appear to be 'stepped' etc) it looks.
