I need new anti virus and am not sure which is the best value. I was just about to go with McAfee but remembered all the annoying pop up messages the last time I used it. I just need something basic and good value. Any recommendations?

plenty of free alternatives that do just as good a job if not a better one as mcaffee, + they wont bog down your pc like norton etc do.

have a look at AVG or Avira both have free editions

    look here http://free.avg.com/
    and here http://www.free-av.de/en/index.html

if your looking for added protection you could look at using a firewall
like comodo which is also free!!!

so i think free = amazing value xD

Edit: just incase you think there is a catch to them being free............. there ISN'T!!!!!
no annoying adds popping up to buy the paid version etc.

thanks. I actually had avg free before but after 1 month it seemed to time out thats why I wasn't going to bother again. I am downloading it as I type so hopefully it will be fine.

I use norton.... although its the spawn of Heith him self I think it does the job well. Just the anti virus though not the internet security! it is awfull! STAY CLEAR OF IT!

but for £40 ish the new norton anti virus is a good buy in my view.

U could also try Avira AntiVirus which is free and is good too.

Just one thing if u do go ahead and use AVG 8 switch off the link scanner or you'll end up cursing it, it scans all your webpages before it loads them to check for viruses and such which is great but the result is very very slow internet :(

Norton is junk, even the anti virus alone, its shocking free alternatives do the job better and arn't bloated to high, I personally use avira anti vir

Symantec is your only man. Trouble free anti virus protection. I have it on nearly 100 pc's and its bullet proof. Dont confus it with Norton cos Norton should not be let near a pc and most definitely not the "Internet Security" pack. Shudder!!

I bought Kaspersky Internet Security for about seventy quid... off the shelf. three PC license.

It's much better than Avast free, and well worth the money. It's good software, and pretty powerful, though you have to know how to use it a bit. I would recommend it, because it's really done me well.

It detected a few gribbly's Avast! home missed, and saved me a good mdeal of bother.
