How do you think this fight will pan out.

Can Hopkins defy the odds and beat Pavlik or can Kelly walk down old man Hopkins and make him quit.

High risk fight for Kelly as only a KO will enhance his rep and B-Hop is the mater at making the opponent look bad.

TKO, can you please try and post a link or story on the bout and then ask the question.

BTW, Pavlik at this stage should be too youthful and strong and fit for an old man like Bhop. Bhop is a 1 minute per rd fighter!

Apparently this is a done deal on numerous sites.

I would like to think Kelly could walk him down but never under estimate the ring smarts of B-Hop. Then again time will catch up with him eventually.

Pavlik is going up in weight so it may not be as straightforward as some suggest.
Although, like DLH, Hopkins only can go six rounds now before the tank runs empty. So, the only way i see Hopkins winning is by stoppage in the early rounds. If he can't do that you would have to favour Pavlik to get a late stoppage against a tired Hopkins.

I would agree with most of this. B-Hop is going to have to finish it early or at least do some damage early. The only way he can win is to stop it in the first five or six or win the early rounds and try to eek out a points decision. He showed nothing in the later rounds vs Calzaghe but that said it will be hard to KO him as he is a wily defensive fighter.

You want to KNOW what I KNOW About this fight??

    I'll tell you....ITS A CROCK OF SH!TE....

Thats what I think. How dare the Yanks serve this SH!TE UP COLD to us, probably on PPV, ....and DARE to criticise European fighters???

A Used to be Middlweight who hasn't won a fight at 160 in YEARS...who is coming off a loss, against a guy who MIGHT have been a decent middleweight IF HE ACTUALLY FUKCING FOUGHT THERE......all the while Abraham gets the short shrift from these Cnuts.

Load of sh!T. I defaecate heartily on the Americans and their BS.

25 years ago, Gerry Cooney couldn't get an ounce of respect from these ****. Now they gleefully ride the coat-tails of the baldest, whitest man since Butterbean.

Ah, how desperately America grasps at straws in Y2K+8

I wont disagree but I think time will catch up with old man Hopkins and Kelly could well stop him in this one.

Kelly is after the big/money fights and at this time Abraham can not offer that. Lets be honest Abraham needs to fight out of the US for awhile and force Kellys hand. I know it's ridiculous but that is just the way it is.

Isn't the fight at 170 rather than 160?

Yes, which will suit Hopkins much better than Pavlik obviously.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 57,370 ✭✭✭✭walshb

It may also really suit Pav, as he now doesn't have to concentrate so hard in the gym on making weight. He can realax and simply train hard, eat well and be stronger than ever. I think he is the bigger man naturally here. He is a monster sized middle, and at 6 feet 2, is possibly taller too.

Doesn't he have a mandatory to fight?

    Yes he does.

I think Pavlik would be more than happy to fight Abraham. Once B-hop is out of the way - win/lose/draw, and Abraham gets the mandatory out of the way, I think that it will be made. I can't see Pavlik - Calzaghe

From listening to the press conference, you get the feeling that Pavlik - Hopkins happened because Abraham was taking his mandatory

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,380 ✭✭✭✭nacho libre

I think if Pavlik loses it takes the edge off a showdown with Calzaghe. I want Calzaghe to beat an unbeaten Pavlik just to see the revision that will take place over Pavlik's ability. In the same way Kessler was the man to beat Calzaghe but after he lost wasn't that good afterall:pac:

That does indeed seem to be the plan, Pavlik's team would probably rather a fight with Calzaghe should he beat Jones and still want another fight(which is a possibility) but otherwise they very much want the Abraham bout.

Well, he just destroyed Miranda at 166.......if we go by the form book, Kellys last two fights have seen him beat Taylor over 12 in a non-title fight and beat Lockett IN a title fight.

Abraham has Dee-Stroyed Miranda at 166, some gimme called Elvin Ayala and KO'd Englands Wayne Elcock in 5 in his last 3 fights.

I think they are about even- Elcock is probably as good at Lockett and if I had a choice between fighting Taylor at 166 or Miranda at 166 {especially if I was Abraham and I was mindful of my broken jaw} then I would go with Taylor.

Abraham has, through his activity rate and general quality of opponent, developed a head of steam. He also has some MASSIVE support in America via the California-based Armenian community. So the Yanks can't fob this kid off and say "Who is Arthur Abraham"...it won't wash. There is a tonne of money to be made- bring it to either Nevada or LA and they will come to support him. Its a huge huge fight. The Armenian community is especially tight-knit. PPV and Gate will be high.

Eitherways- and this is in no way particular to the 160lb division alone- I am sick of all the BS that the Yanks are going on with whilst complaining about the Heavyweight Division. 140 through to 160 are in serious and varying states of disrepair save for the POSSIBLE and very recent turn of events at 147, which, in reality, probably concerns no more than 3 fighters. In addition, the fact that Margarito lost to Williams who lost to Quintana who lost to Cotto who lost to Margarito who lost to Williams who beat Quintana is probably as bad as it is good.

But the Yanks seem to think its OK, whilst pissing all over the heavyweights. Go figure.

Judah vs Clottey, Pavlik vs Taylor II, Pavlik vs Lockett, De La Hoya vs Mayweather, {in fact, throw all of Floyds Post-135 reign in there}, Hopkins vs Pavlik, Hopkins vs Taylor, Hopkins vs Wright, most of Taylors defence at 160 or should I say 154 {in fact, all of his ****!ng pre-pavlik career almost}, De La Hoya Mayorga... and a whole lot more besides...have all been examples of some of the nonsense that has been going on in those divisions over the last 5 years.

There is NO consolidation, NO unanimity or consensus of opinion, NO continuity across those divisions, just so-called "Big Fights" being passed off as "strong divisions". Its BUNKUM. Guys like Judah being called the "Undisp Welter Champion"....he wasn't even the 3rd best fighter at 140 when he left.!!!

    Anyways- Rant over.

    THATS MY POINT!!!

WTF IS THE MIDDLEWEIGHT CHAMP DOING FIGHTING AN EX-MIDDLEWEIGHT CHAMP AT 170 ALL THE WHILE HE HAS SERIOUS BUSINESS AT 160???:mad::mad::mad::mad:

    Marquez.

But seeing, by your logic, that Abrahams title counts for nothing, maybe Pavlik should offer him the fight and Abraham can vacate??

I mean, its all about the big fights, right??;):rolleyes::rolleyes:

I suppose Pavlik fought Lockett because Abraham wanted to fight Miranda at 166 too, right??:rolleyes:

I stay up late to watch a lot of fights but I'll be giving this one a miss. No interest in the wide earthly world in this fight. Its just all about a better payday than fighting some unknown for Pavlik.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 117 ✭✭mousey007

It'll still be quite a good fight, hope Hopkins is well prepared for it and being honest I think he will be.He'll have too much pride to just give up and roll over

I stayed up to watch Calzaghe Hopkins so Ill stay up to watch Pavlik - Hopkins.

I can see why Pavlik is taking the Hopkins fight but I'd rather see him in action at 160 a bit more. One title defence against Gary Lockett in what will probably be 18 months isnt great. He should fight Abraham next and after that either move up or stay put
